The New Sage Icon, Thoughts?

Right people from all markets yet the only actual piece of info we have is from the jp forums. Considering how much people plaster themselves all over social media, i guarantee if people had an actual issue with it we’d be seeing it everywhere.

The fact that the only social media related thing is a post from someone who doesn’t even have the phobia is very telling.

Not really.. as I addressed above.

Fact of the matter is it really is strange how there’s numerous things in game that are trypophobia triggers, yet people haven’t complained about it until now.

When 14 is at its peak and sage is the new shiny thing that has everyone’s attention. There are just too many things that don’t add up. along with the random PR move.

FFXIV right now is probably at the BEST PR position it has been in years. New players lauding the experience left and right, a large streamer praising them for their fast reactions to the people harassing them, a recent fanfest that is still getting exposure for the dedication and emotional bond between the staff AND the community.

Why try to milk it so hard with one change?

Again though, Leatherworker. People seem to keep avoiding that. Leatherworker has been in the game and no one complained. But sage the shiny new job suddenly has a lot of attention and this happens.

Nobody's avoiding it. You're ignoring the people with the phobia telling you that it isn't just triggered by holes. Not everything with holes triggers it. Sometimes it's specific patterns of them. Sometimes it's size related. Sometimes it's color related. What causes the aversion in one person may not in someone else.

Also, to the idea triggers in game and people not complaining about it, I have things that skeeve me out in game and I try to avoid them or not look at them since they are normal, everyday things that belong there. So I don't personally complain about those because this is a "me" issue.

In this case, someone was skeeved out by the Sage icon, and they gave feedback. That doesn't mean they haven't given feedback on other things that may have bothered them. It just means SE saw the feedback and decided they could take some action, for whatever reason.

I don't know the members of the development team and they do not know me, so there's no 'emotional bond' to be had on my part.

...and a large number of people are emotionally invested in the likes of McDonald's. I'm not here to police what people like or dislike, though I expect the respect in turn for people to agree to disagree rather than attack people for not blindly worshipping the development team for every last little gesture that they indulge in.

Some people will take such gestures at face value, others will be more sceptical. I think both stances are perfectly acceptable. Just like how some people will prefer the original icon, others are indifferent and yet more have a preference for the new one.

All different groups can co-exist, though personal attacks and insults need to be left at the door.

And clarifying that you in particular are not emotionally invested in it at all contributed to what I said? Or is this just a clarification to make sure that nobody makes the mistake of thinking that you, a player of FFXIV, might possibly be emotionally invested?


Great, good. I am very happy you can separate yourself from everything and objectively observe that this is just a game you play.

Absolutely none of that contributes to the point of my comment which was that there is no good reason for them to milk an icon change for positive PR when they are swimming in good PR at the moment which is a logical line of thought compared to a decision to lie, creating possible trouble in the future if exposed and fabricating a problem where there is none when it's been shown that the company can simply go "we decided to do this" and aside from the usual bellyaching about change (which is happening anyway), players wouldn't even blink.
