I know all of that.Even with the media tour... it's so vastly different than for example, with WoW's open betas/PTRs where people either experience things both in classes and also plot spoilers fully in advance and datamine a ton of strings with more information.
And ironically a game that allows so many to actually go and test and experience stuff in development phase, the final product always came very flawed lol. Not sure how the current expansion went out, since I left in the very beginning of the previous one.
I wasn't saying we'll know everything during the Media Tour.
I said what I said. It looks "quiet" for now but some info will come soon. Not all of them. Some of them.
That's all
The reason why it's "quiet" is because:Coming from other games that would have all their story points spoiled months in advance, and its new classes/jobs “solved” and slotted into their place in the “meta,” long before expansion launch, it’s just so refreshing to… be “allowed to not know” these things! I don’t know if there’s just a crust to this information that I intentionally haven’t even looked for to punch through, but holy damn it’s like night and day to walk into a 10 year old game that doesn’t have an encyclopedic 3rd party “shameless black market of secrets” fansite somewhere in plain sight! If SE were more lax on this stuff it'll be more upfront ingame and even outside of the game like on streams but with the increase in sprouts lately due to certain celebrities playing it. You'll only notice more and more of these types of things but then again, i've watched and played this game on/off since legacy under various accounts and have been surprised on what the team does/decides to do quite often. so it'll be interesting to see how these new sprouts handle things.
- They have a tendancy to ban dataminers and even talks about it and as a result many of them don't publicly post about what they find and most avoid the subject all together.
- there is a meta and even a dps tier list but it's not talk much about or shown outside of fc discords due to fear of getting the hammer ingame since you can't say you're removing someone because their jobs dps is too low for them.
- alot of players use 3rd party tools and they're even sometimes mentioned in high end content party listings ingame, they just disguise it in the listings and don't talk about them ingame or such is all.
Yeah, Blizzard only has test realms so they can test on players, see where the problems are, ignore the problems, then release for more play testing by the general population, who then complain about the same things that were pointed out in the test realm.Yeab no ptr testrealm for you. No unpaid testing via the community. No spoiled raidcontent. Or other new jobs. Or story.
It's not WoW where Blizzard lets people test their game so they can fix stuff that shouldn't be a problem in the first place. But then i can understand it tho, Blizzard is a small indie company so they actually have to rely on their players as guinea pigs.
how I so DO NOT miss those days....
This brings a tear to my eye, and not the bad kind. The reason why it's "quiet" is because:[LIST=1][*]They have a tendancy to ban dataminers and even talks about it and as a result many of them don't publicly post about what they find and most avoid the subject all together. I know SE have a reputation to be heavy handed with the… Ahem, let me underscore my North American accent here… “my god given right to treat the ‘people’ on the internet like the resources for my gaming goals that they are,” but to be quite honest, with online gaming no longer possessing the novelty it had 15 years ago, it’s the most necessary evil to go in hard on this stuff! I play FFXIV for leveling, squadrons and trusts, and I have enjoyed myself so much knowing that the sword of “””censorship”””hangs over this game for those that should potentially fear it!
Well, another side to it is that a lot of the fan base that is familiar with the series can kind of guess what direction things are headed. FF’s online series (11 and 14) have always done a pretty good job seeding potential future things without really going in a completely random direction so I would imagine there is less of a draw to try to extract actual concrete information and more of an atmosphere of fun speculation. Couple that with their design philosophy (all roles basically equal) and people don’t really care so about their meta.
I agree, that makes it nice, and fun.. but it can be predictable somewhat.
Like, it’s pretty obvious Endwalker will draw in FF4; I won’t spoil anything here, other than to say I have a strong feeling about certain story beats/bosses and am maybe 50% sure what the next Endgame Trials will be.

Honestly, after a decade of a certain author’s works spraying blood, feces and other bodily excretions all over the traditions of the fantasy genre in the name of “sUBverTiNG ExpECtaIOnS,” causing a copycat effect all over the place, It’s so comforting to play a story that “should go this way,” and does!Well, another side to it is that a lot of the fan base that is familiar with the series can kind of guess what direction things are headed. Sometimes the predictable answer is predictable because it’s what the heart wants!
Having just caught up to Guildwars 2, gotta say I agree! that ship…might still be sailing but nobody is steering it…
So indeed- it’s nice to have a ship that’s going somewhere with a competent crew.
August is going to be quiet because the Media Tour and next LL isnt till next month. There isnt really much happening atm, of course theres all the new players joining the game looking to try something new of course and most people right now are just finishing gear/glamour sets etc but we are still in the content drought phase for another few weeks in anycase.
Personally Im just playing Zanador atm and finishing off my remaining relics and Maxing out my buffs in the meantime so I can have it ready for grinding up Reaper and Sage in November, probably gonna finish crafter relics after too.
I wouldn't completely agree with that. The ShB launch trailer was released in 2 weeks in advance and contained a few minor spoilers in addition to a rather large one at the end that had players in an uproar.
But still the lack of a PTR means that players are mostly kept in the dark until the content is actually released.
No test server for people to find out things on and ruin it really helps with a lot of that. Plus SE knows people datamine and it seems they troll them sometimes. Dataminers will post about things that end up being for other versions of the game (like China) or involved with promotions, etc. SE also trolls us with the story. They'll put things into the patch trailers to deliberately mislead.
The community is also pretty hard on spoilers. There are lot of folks who play this game for the story so it's something that fansites and groups tend to protect at all costs.
