Can't wait to see the new Raubahn EX now that the community has vastly grown....

Yeah, Asmongold is probably going to be a fixture in FFXIV for a long time to come, so we'd better get used to him. On the bright side, now that a major WoW streamer has shown just how awesome FFXIV can be, it's going to bring in even more players.

The sad part of all of this is that Blizzard keeps shooting themselves in the face, so we're likely to keep claiming more of the WoW playerbase as that game continues to fall apart, especially as the WoW game state drives more streamers (like Pyromancer) to having a full on meltdown. I welcome all who come here, but I wish these circumstances weren't a factor. I'm also hoping Blizzard can get their act together and clean house, because their behavior is exceedingly unbecoming of a major game studio.

I really do wish that this was happening under better circumstances. Even before the ActiBlizzard lawsuit people were leaving in droves and those players were being blamed for what was wrong with the game. In fact, they still are depending on the day on Twitter. The developers and some of the staff at Blizzard act like petulant children. That's...not how you get them back. lol What we are seeing now, unfortunately, is a game in its death throes. Blizzard itself may not even recover, but we will have to see. Either way, the players are going to go where they feel they are getting the most out of their money. Being respected is also a huge bonus.

I just hope some other game comes along to create competition for 14. It’s a common trend that when there is none, game devs get lazy and try to get away with less effort. Considering how accepting this community is about…basically anything the 14 devs do, it’s a recipe for disaster.

It's been my hope for a while, personally.

There's a handful of MMO's due to launch in the upcoming years so maybe at least one of them will succeed. There's also MMO's on the market right now, other than FFXIV. Namely WoW, GW2 and ESO. WoW is in quite a pickle right now and I am not entirely convinced that it will ever recover. GW2 and ESO are decent enough, I suppose - but much like with FFXIV, they're starting to show their age.

I'd love FFXIV to get a strong competitor that encourages more quality of life improvements as well as bolder choices for expansion features/new content.

Established limitations have an interesting trend of suddenly being overcome when a rival business is threatening to steal the attention of customers.

    Eh...
WoW is still bigger than FFXIV I am pretty sure.

There's a lot of noise right now but I don't think FFXIV is going to become bigger than WoW.
WoW could lose A LOT of players and still remain bigger and that's basically what's happening.

Blizzard used to brag quite openly about having a high number of subscribers but they stopped doing that a while back. WoW is also a much older game that has been plagued by various controversies over the years and shown open contempt to many of its paying customers. There's always going to be people who choose to play it no matter what, though I suspect such individuals are not nearly as numerous as they once were.

To frame it differently, WoW used to be the game to play. Celebrities played it. They openly advertised it. It broke world records on various fronts and had a lot of cool news stories about positive things happening within the game itself.

Those days are long gone, though. Individual servers with tight knit communities lost much of their identity. The role-play community stagnated and became known not for cool, intricate events but...well, what goes on within Goldshire.

Any news about the game I have heard since I quit WoW has been negative. Not even the people I left behind encourage me to come back to try it any longer - and they've all since quit themselves.

While I cannot give a specific date on when personal housing will be implemented, I can say that prices will be completely separate from free company housing, and, naturally, far more affordable.

I played WoW from vanilla to Cata so I am aware, but '' the masses '' so to speak really don't care and don't tend to have very high standards.
Tens of millions of people still buy the same copy pasted assets sports games and FPS games on a yearly basis.
When you look at the best selling games they don't exactly tend to ooze originality.

I also just think that FFXIV is '' too Japanese '' for the average joe, the amount of people that are judgemental and have very extreme reactions against anything '' not Western '' shouldn't be underestimated.
Quite frankly I think that people in general are pretty uptight and shallow, and I think that really shows in the best selling titles and how many incredible games don't sell anywhere near as well because they're not '' realistic ''.
Like the average joe is someone who can't or refuses to take Nier Automata seriously because 2B has a butt, good luck getting them to give FFXIV a chance let alone actually stick with it.

Warcraft is obviously pretty cartoony, but the overall tone and presentation is a lot more Western where everyting is McSeriousface so when a Miqo'Te runs up on screen or a character isn't a big burly sad/ angry dad man in beefy armor they just can't take it seriously and often can't get over it.
Even someone like Zepla said herself that she was kinda like that at first too but got over it, but I think she's the exception really and not the norm.

Again will FFXIV gain a ton of new players and WoW lose a lot.
Yeah, but I honestly don't think that FFXIV will take WoW's position as number 1.
Maybe online it will in terms of how we speak about it, but we're a small group of people in the grand scheme of things.
Most people who log in and play every day and watch commercials etc aren't online like us.

I mean... Shadowlands was the fastest selling PC game of all time...
    After BFA...
