Can we take action against Bard Macro Player yet?

in other games where this exist (Lotro for example) 99% use midi files too and no one bats an eye .

Bards singing is for fun and entertainment ,if u can do it manual thats awesome and i appreciate it more but punishing ppl that doesnt know how to play , and still want to entertain others is a mistake

Bards with the music player became so obnoxiois I have performance turned off full time.
I just let them do their thing but it's nothing more than the average person doing /beesknees in my eyes because it's nothing special to hear someone rock his playlist.

It is kinda sad that people with actual talent get overshadowed by someone using a midiplayer.
At this point SE should just outright release an autoplay function that lets you play midi songs as a feature.

This is just to cover in the event of copyright strikes. They don’t actually care, but if I did a Disney song and put it on YouTube..and Disney made a big fuss to sue over it, SE can use this to protect themselves from the suit.

Fun fact: the song featured in FFXIV “Answers” is technically also on that list of songs you should not play for copyright reasons.

Me personally I could care less if someone is playing for real or not as long as they are not making my ears bleed.

I'd prefer that they make the music audible only to the player doing it, and perhaps those in a party. I can't stand being in a town with players making this noise all the time.

I generally do not think that midi players are harmful at all. they don't harm anyone's experience, don't give anyone an advantage over others (You could make the argument that they garner more attention but then again, music like any art is subjective) and it's a part of the game that is completely voluntary and can be turned off if someone doesn't want to hear bard performances at all.

As for punishments, i don't think that they are suitable at all. First of all is it impossible to know if someone is running a third party program that plays midi files, or if someone uses hardware coded macros (if you own certain brands of keyboards for example you can make your own macros with indefinite length of commands).

And while yes the TOS are clear, i have to make an argument in favor of midis because it allows people to perform and roleplay ingame that may not be able to use the perform action ingame, maybe due to disabilities that limit you to controllers or other input devices that may not support the many button layout required for performance. Or it lets people test perform their own symphonies that they've composed themselves and converted into midi. and then of course there are the ingame occurances of choreographed performances like one that was previously linked that use these midi players because traditional inputs with latency in mind would make proper timing near impossible to pull off with multiple players.

When something is less harm and more fun, i don't think it should warrant a punishment as long as they keep themselves from playing any copyrighted material.

Are you aware that you can turn performances off in your settings? You'd have to turn them on again each time you'd want to hear them (if a friend is performing for you, for example), which is probably a tiny bit annoying, but genereally speaking: You dont have to listen to people playing music in towns.

I think banning 3 party apps like cactbot has more priority than some music bots.......
