    a lack of apartments.

I'm aware that when folk tend to voice their grievances with the lack of private and fc plots, folk tend to point them toward apartments as a viable solution.

After a while I bit the bullet and decided to just get one.

Unfortunately I noticed a blatant lack of apartments available, which resulted in a several hour hunt. With some outside assistance, I managed to snatch up one - unfortunately, once the available apartments were announced they were promptly snatched up in the span of one day.

With a notable lack of apartments on populated servers, is there any possible way to alleviate the issue or make it easier to check if apartments are available instead of having to port to each division or sub-division?

Edit: I've just been informed that all Balmung apartments are gone. So basically I just barely dodged a bullet.

This is a problem unique to Balmung, which has always had an oversaturated need for housing market. Even if it's no longer considered a congested server. Poking around the other servers on the DC, there's still plenty of apartments open.

I hope they decide to look at this as a case by case, server by server issue and open some new apartments since they're instanced to begin with. Rather than make the server wait till 6.1 to drop more apartments in Ishgard.

In my apt complex there is a guy that I know that had one right after they came out in 2016 when I also nabbed one. He has not played the game for several years and there it sits, forever locked, never visited. He won't be back. They are a nice place to store I guess. Kinda a waste huh?

I have an alt I created back in 2015 and I have an apartment that I have not stepped in since 2015. On Balmung they need a pruge.

I think if they had a 'one year timer' that'd be fair. I believe that'd clear apartments that haven't been used in a long time.

SE said that adding more wings to apartment buildings would be relatively easy to do (compared to adding new wards) if it became necessary. That's a part of why they're not subject to demolition. Here's to hoping they do that sooner not later.

Sounds like Balmung just filled. I had checked about 2 months ago when helping a friend and was able to find several dozen available in Goblet (primarily the subdivision buildings). It makes sense considering the influx of new players we've had in recent weeks. There will be the occasional apartment becoming available as players transfer off world but they're going to be rare.

If anything, having apartments autogenerate additional wings would be a good trial run of the tech needed to do the same for the wards...

But I have a feeling we may see 100% housing utilization (both apartments and houses) on NA before too long as NA has almost half of the characters worldwide going by https://ffxivcensus.com/ . Let's hope SE can get ahead of that before it happens, otherwise apartment auto-demolition may become a necessity.

Last time Balmung filled SE stayed silent and Balmung just had to wait out more wards. I have a feeling this is another case of them having to increase something on all servers or none. If there's not a call for an increase in apartments on multiple other worlds, I think Balmung's stuck waiting on 6.1

Possibly. On the other hand, increasing the number of apartment wings for all worlds shouldn't strain server resources like the ward plots do.

I've been thinking about this since my first post, SE has now set up the same situation for apartments that plots had before the purchase timer was added. Someone with a Balmung apartment they aren't using can always charge another player a fee to relinquish it so the second player would immediately have an apartment to purchase. I don't know how many worlds are getting close to capacity on apartments but with the surge in new players, I imagine more worlds will be in the same position before Endwalker is released.

All of this just frustrates me so much. I remember playing RIFT and having 2-3 Dimensions active on each of my characters (first 2 were free as part of the game, increasing a character's limit past two required a purchase). At no time was there ever a "sorry, we're all out of room" despite Dimensions being possible the most popular content in the game. SE needs to step back and think about what best meets player needs when it comes to housing instead of sticking to a flawed design that will never meet the needs of an expanding player base.

Wards upon wards is available on most servers. This is a isolated issue and don't need fixing.
