Hard to notice people being toxic when you are the one considered toxic. :P Though my metric for toxic behavior is rather high.

at the end of the day i think that while the problem does exist it can and most likely will sort itself out.
the fact of the matter is that at current a lot of players are coming over from wow and i really don't want to bash to game here, but the tone is just different.
played it 12 years ago and it was fine, gave it another shot 2,5 years ago and literally no one said ANYTHING in any dungeon for the first 65 or so levels. i opened every dungeon with a "hello" and got exactly 0 responses other than people allready pulling the first 4 groups. (no i'm not exaggerating, this was my honest experience)
now whats important about this for ffxiv and whats to learn from it ? as has been seen loads of time with different threads on here aswell as on reddit aswell as from the experience of some lesser known streamers that go through the game without a fanclub following them and mostly partying with people that have no idea who they are is that these people are as sick of this climate as everyone in final fantasy that right now sees this influx of toxicity. sure, there are a******* but people coming over to this game, be it from wow or any other game mostly don't like it either.
where does this lead us ? I obviously can't speak for everyone but i truly think that by far the best we as a community can do is to be as welcoming as possible.
to be clear this does not mean being accepting of toxicity, if people truly are toxic than its important to show them that this behaviour is not acceptable, but do it through the right channels in that case, not by replying in kind. If however what you see is not outright hostile than lead by example, be friendly, be helpfull, stay positive.
i assure you most people will gladly fall in line given some time. for a lot of people its just a kind of culture shock right now, they are so trained to just rush, push forward and ignore any kind of communication outside of a free company/raid group they literally don't know how to properly react if someone sends you a random greeting or tries to give you but the nicest and most basic of advice because they have come to learn that pretty much everything a random person will heap unto them is toxicity.
now of course there are those that are just assholes, but embrace the ones that are not, and reject (by reporting if they truly break the rules, by not enganging if they are just "not nice") those that aren't, and these issues will sort themselves out quickly.

This is often true. I usually get 0-1 for my best runs, high damage, no deaths, heals where needed, and multiple comms for my messiest where I had to chain Rez people I let die in the first place. I've even seen and done experiments on it doing 0 dps and spamming heals at the slightest damage in Normal raids and ended up with 3-4+ comms.
Eh. The way I see it is that if I'm doing what is required, both with my job and with mechanics (and with few screw ups) then I'm simply doing what I'm supposed to be doing. It is nothing special. If I get a commendation then that's cool, but I never expect them. I just perform to the best of my ability and sometimes I get a nice surprise. Players definitely don't give them out like used to though. I always try to toss one at someone at the end of a run but there's not a lot of people who do that nowadays. This is often true. Agree. I noticed lately that people no longer have the habit of pressing commendation after dungeons. Unlike back in 2.0 till HW before I took a loong break from this game. I also still toss it out like you out of pure habit hahaEh. And I agree with your comment regarding how if people are meeting jerks and toxic ppl all the time that maybe a self reflection is in order haha.
I find a lot of the time people are in such a rush... typically, I pass on the loot because I dont need/want, by that time.. they are goneAgree. sometimes even if I try to commend first they have vanished... its like.. slow down... smell the roses lol, get more comms that way
Agree. I usually no longer roll greed or pass if I do not need any of the items. I just let other ppl go for it. But often ppl also seem to no longer bother such that the game auto rolls for us and I still get loot haha.
And yes they are usually in a rush. Guess us more old school gamers are used to wanting to appreciate the surroundings more than the newer ones.
I usually even cheer players after a dungeon if I know they are new to it etc. to add to the positive experience for that person. But most just really just disappears less than a second after the boss dies, they seem to have even memorized where the exit portal will pop and are usually standing over there before boss dies lol.
Why did you feel the need to say anything when they didn't respond? You could have left it alone. You got snotty when they didn't reply to you and now you're surprised that someone had a bad reaction?
And where exactly are you getting that? Was the OP sitting with the other player in the same room or possesses ESP to be able to read the other player's mind? The only thing they had was that they said something in chat and there wasn't a reply. There are any number of things that could explain that. The OP got mad they didn't get a reply, but nobody is required to speak in chat. The mature thing wouldn't be to throw out a passive aggressive comment about being ignored and instead just leave it alone and get through the run. And definitely don't throw out a passive aggressive comment and then come here complaining about other people being toxic when their passive aggressiveness sets someone off.

to me, ignoring someone that's directly talking to me is bad manners, especially when a simple "no" or "don't care" wouldn't have resulted in the OP's passive aggressive observation /shrug
