Serious note -Why so many toxic players lately?

Just curious if a lot of you are noticing the same issues?

Not myself. I am new but I have about three or four hundred hours /playtime already. I've run many dungeons, did many random group activities out in the world, hung out and chatted in major cities, and been active on these forums. I've seen no toxicity to speak of beyond a couple curse words, and even those were used in an exclamatory manner, not in a sexual manner.

No community on Earth (not even your local church, food bank, or other respectable place) will be completely devoid of people you find off-putting. That's life.

I can tell you, though, that compared to other MMO communities (in which I have tens of thousands of hours of experience) this community is super-nice. There are no disgusting threads on these forums about hot political and social issues. Maybe that's due to moderation; maybe it's due to the fact that people here just want to play instead of argue about politics. I couldn't say yet.

There aren't people hanging out in major cities throwing racial slurs. There aren't people randomly throwing homophobic slurs in pick up groups.

This community is like night and day compared to other MMOs.

I mean, really.... this is the very first thread I've seen about toxicity, having come to these forums a couple weeks ago and spending a couple hours a day here. That's nuts. You can't go five minutes on other forums without seeing a thread about how someone is harassing someone else or how someone wants a developer to be fired.

Sounds like me, just with a different past playing.

The forums like to claim anyone necroing old threads or posting controversial things as that guy's alt, when I personally don't think he posts anymore. The accusations get old though, really.

Especially when you fail to understand there can be more than one forum troll, but I digress.

I haven't noticed toxicity, but I don't play higher level content. At 71 I level via trust dungeons, then shelf the job. I haven't tome farmed for a job yet, for example.

It is just a way for people to deflect others opinions that they might not agree with.


However, if I was a troll. I would be happy that I live in so many people head, that I don't got to do a thing, and people still bring me up.

Sounds like OP was the toxic one. You have to remember that this game is also on PS4 and PS5. Some console players cant reply as fast as you like them to be so you saying that statement just moments after you asked is a little toxic.

I have not experienced this. If anything the community has not changed. I go into mentor roulette and leveling roulette and see new sprouts being friendly and open to communication and tips.

Some people also confuse toxicity shaming for being called out. Like making a mistake and being called out on it some actually think that's toxic, that is not. Personal responsibility is a thing in this game as well. The thing is you can get up and dust yourself off and try again.

It's okay to make mistakes, we were all new before too.

Sometimes we may get a mechanic, but the screw isn't on very tight in the 2nd run.

Basically, don't be rude to people, and if it's a mistake that needs correction, simply mention what it is without additional commentary.

It's not hard, you'll too will get over 5k commendations like I have if you do these simple things.

I obtained more than 1,5k comms on my second month of subscription. Comms are worthless though. I farmed them for the battle mentor icon. And also optimal play is not going to yield you a lot of comms, at least when you are playing a healer. So the whole system about mentoring needs to be reworked.

Just being a healer gets you commendations.

No, we proclaim certain people are the same troll. Or at least I do.

I actually point out when I don't think it's them, because they have a very specific style and it's generally obvious when it's them.


Im not a big fan of trolls, but we used to have better ones. I doubt many here know of Rokien, and we had ramrodicus maximus on Balmung back in the day.

As for OP, not everyone who isn't paying attention to chat is toxic, nor can everyone respond to you quickly.

Yeah but I noticed that the more damage you do as a healer the less likely you are to get comms even if no one has died. This is not always true since I have received 3x comms in some runs where I was focusing on dps but still it the impression I was left with.

There has been a huge influx of players recently, both toxic and non-toxic. This is probably why you are seeing more toxic players, simply because there are more players. *Edit: didn't see the tags. Oops.*

Agree to disagree then. I can't be the only one completely not surprised that it played out as it did. If you want to flip that coin then be my guest. Don't cry about it afterwards if the conversation doesn't go your way.

I'm not saying don't chat in an MMO that's just silly. You just won't see me typing what the OP typed in chat and expect happy times to follow. It comes with actually playing an MMO and knowing how not to ask someone about their job skills.

oh, I'm not saying I'm surprised either, but that's because I know through experience that some players in XIV get really upset at absolutely everything, even if it's just jumping around in a dungeon or raid, or, lo and behold, use the chat to ask an innocent question
I just think it's absolutely, well, stupid?, to fly off the handle over what the OP said and makes me wonder in what kind of bubble they're living in if such a comment upsets them that much

There hasn't been any change whatsoever. There has always been toxic players in this game, though I wouldn't say they are any sort of majority. I've always been of the opinion that if someone is encountering jerks all day, it's usually not other people that are the problem.
