Why do all U/U items sell for 1 gil?

In patch 1.21 we are implementing a new supplies mission that will request you to deliver unique/untradable items for company seals.

The unique/untradable items dropped from the Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak, Dzemael Darkhold and NMs will be what’s requested for you to deliver, so dust off those Verdant Scepters and Ascetic's Tights and head back to battle against Batraal and friends!

More details on the items as well as how many company seals you can receive for delivering them will be announced in the patch notes before it goes live. We will continue to increase more ways to obtain company seals as we keep moving forward.

This. People were saying why do DH or Toto-rak again, but the seals return must be good for those to hold merit. Or at least have an achievement for it and you insured everyone will do the quest once (per item?)

This means I need to trade in my item BEFORE I go farm another?

I use my Verdant Scepter. But if I want to trade it in for seals, first I have to give it up THEN I can try to farm another and hope I get it?

OR, do I get to have a 'second' Verdant Scepter that I can immediately trade in for Seals? If this is possible, then this is great as I do not have to give up my prized item in the hopes of getting another.

This could be doable: Get a certificate from GC so that any time a second U/U item is dropped into your inventory it immediately gets transformed into seals rather than being lost.

No gamble, no loss, everyone happy!!!

Imagine, Iffy could be fun again for those who have 7/7 or tire of getting duplicate unique items. Auto converted into seals!

You can carry more than one U/U item if you put it on your retainer or put it up for repair in your bazaar

joking, Ill take what ever wrought gets me most seals an hour so until i see the amounts i wont bother farming stuff.

If not able to be sold they should at last be able to be turned into materia. Maybe with a slighter chance of getting something good... My retainer is full of items that I got for leveling, now have no use for, but don't want to just drop if there is a chance they might be useful later...

Could you answer one little question for me, though? Will it be competitive (like the current supply/provision missions), will we have personal quotas, or will we be able to trade as much as we like?
