any time they pick will have someone disadvantaged. they likely picked a time the devs doing the work would be awake and not have to pull an all nighter. there is literally no better time than that. and they do maintenance like once a month, it's hardly cutting into your (probably) afk time.
just looked, and yes, the downtime is like 10 AM japan time. it's for the devs work day.

You mean like most western MMOs showing favoritism to Americans when they choose their reset times but god forbid some other game doesnt pander to Americans because they must be the center of the universe D:

Troll post or not...If anyone thinks this is awful, they'd have really, REALLY hated early to mid life FF XI maintenances. Or WoW maintenances back in the day which could take days and the game could be down for much longer as a result. I've heard horror stories of the game going down for weeks at a time. We really have it good.

I'm pretty sure NA timezones (which includes Canada, not to mention latin americans) is usually favored, because that is presumably where the majority of their players are based in the west for various games.

All XIV servers across all 3 regions have maintenance at the same time.

They don't do regional maintenance times. This is 10ish am JST,

Thanks for the information. It's not the end of the world but it is kind of strange.

I work for a software company and we have licensing servers that our product has to check in with to verify it's activation in real time with every use. Our customers are world wide so we choose to do server maintenance during times with the least traffic and it is not convenient for us at all. But it's company policy to reduce downtime as much as possible for as many customers as possible. /shrug

tho even im playing at work days at morning, but in Europe, im on maintenance now too ...... well time to try more GTA5 lol . i need play something to find some relax before sleep and another hard work day o/

On the JP lodestone it was mentioned there were some infrastructure upgrades also planned during this downtime since it's a 9 hour one. It's practically a work shift, so it's possible they are handling work orders on the servers.

Usually they move the time around to affect one region a little more less when it gets too long.

Was just trying to gauge the temperature of players feelings about the peak time Maintenance. The pundits in here are suprisingly entitled. I never mentioned where I am from. We can only guess at best why they chose this time unless we get an official response from SE. It does seem a bit off when they release an event with a pre-planned maintenance at peak time.

Season 20 Feast patch needs a good 9 hours right?

"Hey, just a small thing because I saw some people have been wondering about this.
Tonight we have the 5.58 maintenance, scheduled to take 9 hours, which is a lot longer than the small patch maintenances usually take.

The english Lodestone post doesn't mention this, but the japanese Lodestone post says the maintenance is for implementation of patch 5.58 & infrastructure maintenance (whatever that means for us players).
Just as additional info so noone thinks they are taking 9 hours to start a new feast season."
