Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

We know races in this game can interbreed, and they usually take after the mother. It’s recorded that when an Au Ra ruby princess had a child with a hyur, the child ended up being an Au Ra (albeit with fewer scales). During a Halloween event, a Miqo’te girl had a Miqo’te mother, and a hyur father, and at the gold saucer, there’s a Hyur child with a Roegadyn father.

That's fanon that is not based in the actual lore in the game. I don't remember a miqo'te with a hyur father from an event, but Koji already said that the hyur with a roegadyn dad is adopted. The only confirmed interracial children are the 4 half-Garleans and Hilda. 1 of those half-Garleans proved that "kids being the race of the mom" has no basis in fact since they look 100% Garlean except their third eye is black instead of white. The au ra story is a story from hundreds of years ago or more so we have no way of telling if that's actually true, especially since the story and the underwater au ra themselves, are based on a Japanese folktale.

Plus, if we're going by what Matsuno said on Twitter that FFXIV and FFXII viera are the same settings, then viera interracial relationships are considered abominations in their culture. If Rabanastre has had viera in it for a thousand years and no one has seen a male viera there, then they're obviously not mixing with the locals. While the races can interbreed, the writers of the game have stated several times that they generally just don't. Of the 6 confirmed interracial kids including the au ra, only half of those were the products of a consenting relationship.

i know what you mean and i understand people might think it doesn‘t add up, and in a real life scenario it wouldn’t make much sense - but, the same can be said about the females. i wouldn‘t imagine seclusive amazonian warrior women to look like victoria secret supermodels with make up on. same for female au ra, they are fierce warriors but still look like cutesy uwu women.

Ah, but maybe we’re going about this wrong. Maybe our WoL male Viera didn’t come straight from the forest?
But decended from female Viera who had already left, and thus any male children they have from then on wouldn’t have gone through all that (and thus look softer and smoother, and less scarred).

That's what i was trying to say, the WoL don't count into the lore, or just not entirely. There's no way to tell where he was born ect.

You could make this your head cannon for any male Viera you see that you don’t think is tough looking enough :P

To uh contribute to the discussion on customization..
I hope that when Viera get hats, their wearing-hat-hair for the ponytail will allow their long hair to be repositioned to still exist instead of how a lot of up-dos just have their hair volume disappear when the character is wearing a hat.

The reason I like my current hairstyle as a Lala (It’s sadly Lala exclusive and I wish the other races would get it) is because I have a ponytail that starts at the top of my head (Instead of the bottom like your drawing shows) and when I wear hats the ponytail disappears and looks like your second picture. I like this because it’s like having two hairstyle in one : ). The ponytail you get from The Gold Saucer will stay like your first picture when wearing a hat (I found this out from other people’s pictures of them wearing hats with it). Since we have opposite feelings I’d like there to be a hair toggle like toggling goggles (They can even use the same button) so you can have it without or with the ponytail when wearing a hat!

Don't get your hopes up in that regard, if it cannot be elegantly squished as SE tends to they'll just chop it off.

I think we can forget about hats that arent flat for a long time for vieras. It is just too much work for the devs to fix. I wish they would make it possible to allow veils, thurbans, hoods and bandanas though. The only limitation in that atm is to fix the hair not clipping since the ears can just clip through.

I dont think so, considering the benchmark. I have a hard time seeing them doing more racespecific styles once they figure out how to move the modern aesthetics hairstyles over. There would be no need then.

Unless they decide to add more racespecific hairstyles to everyone, that is. Which is... unlikely.
