Had a WHM join our E9S farm party today. They kept dying to random stuff and we'd end up force wiping and reset. I'm not sure what they were talking about, they complained "No one stacked with me again." We weren't making it past brambles on the pulls, as far as I could see everyone was positioning correctly. They left and then we did 3 smooth clears with a scholar. /shrug

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but once BLM hits 68, Freeze generates a single heart and Flare will consume any available hearts before consuming any mp. At that point your aoe rotation should look more like Freeze < Thunder 4 < Fire 3 < Flare x2 (x3 or x4 if you have manafont and/or super ethers available), then transpose back to ice phase to wait for another mp tick to use freeze again. Rinse and repeat along with using any thundercloud procs you get. At level 70 you gain access to Foul, a hard hitting aoe spell only available if you can maintain Enochian.

Once you hit 72, you gain a trait that allows you to freely cast a spell of the opposite element without mp, allowing you to use freeze, b3, and f3 without cost.

Huh, I didn't realize that you can reuse Flare after Enochian, thanks for the tip c: Foul says it uses a Polyglot and I have no idea what that is, but maintaining Enochian is no big deal when there's plenty of mobs and not too much AoE dodging

Know what is sad, when you see an ice BLM @ level 60+ doing the most damage out of the two DPS in the group. You see some scary shit in this game.

Hmm, really? Freeze is extremely weak... and it sounds incredibly boring to spam freeze and blizz 3 lol. I've gotten a commendation from the entire dungeon group twice with my BLM work I put, chances of that wouldn't happen if I became purely Ice. Thunder I just use on bosses and some stacks of mobs cause I don't think it justifies the cost of cast time for 1-3 enemies that only take seconds to die.

edit: or spamming Blizz 4.. blizz 4 is pretty hard hitting, but it's only single target and I think fire 1 with 3 astrals is still better, same or close. Blizz 4 has an amazing effect though, rock smashing bad ass lol, I would spam it just for that, but I only do it 1-2 times for the umbral hearts.

That is why I said it is sad cause that just meant the other dps probably was most likely brain dead. Just do not be an ice mage outside of freeze spam at the lower levels.

I recently started a new alt-character (for holding furniture...) and had to go through the first three dungeons again to unlock retainers. After unsyching the first one, I decided I could do the other two normally, so I queued up for Tam Tara and ended up in a party with 3 other sprouts - a mrd, a scholar and another archer.

While the tank and the healer were doing an excellent job, the other archer made me scratch my head a little: They were using every skill archer had gotten so far, including peloton during battles (which does nothing). With one exception: Venomous Bite, the first dot archer/bard gets. A friendly hint in the chat to try and always keep that up was ignored... seeing how it was a sprout they obviously have some time to figure it out, but I still found it amusing that they used everything they had at their disposal, including some of the more useless stuff like binding an enemy and then attacking it straight away again, except the skill thats probably the most useful at that point in the game...

Got a Brayflox HM last night on my alt. Start out, do that really big pull in the first room and start to notice my health is plummeting even with cooldowns on. End up going through every cooldown and having to Hallowed Ground. We wipe after Hallowed Ground expires, and I say "Oops, that was a pretty normal pull for this dungeon but I'll slow down!" We slow down and get through the first boss, but I noticed the healer seems to be putting every card they pulled on me, the tank... I didn't say anything though since I didn't want to critique them. But finally I had to stop and take a closer look at them because I felt the missing heals... And I finally realized (very belatedly, derp derp) that they didn't have their sect on. I asked if they had Diurnal Sect, and the person answered "No, I haven't unlocked it yet." ...What??? It's like the very first job quest ability? Turns out the person hadn't done a single job quest other than the one to unlock the job, so they came into 50/60 roulette with no regens and no shields. My heart hurt.

This is why I say certain parts of the MSQ should be gated behind class MSQ at the very least for the first job you level. I have ran into far too many players like that especially as if late.

I get it would cause some issues but zzz.

I will say - after running an alt up and leveling every time I so much as look at a foe - that for the ARR classes at least, it's easy to forget to go do your class quests because they are gated behind specific parts of the MSQ and you end up way over the level for where you are in MSQ. I was doing summoner, and outleveled my ability to do my class quests because I hadn't gotten to the Titan fight for MSQ, and then almost forgot to go do it. I was level 60 or close before I was out of ARR, and I switched to RDM because I wanted to start Heavensward at level 50 at least, then switched to Dancer for Stormblood so I was lvl 60 there. I am already lvl 70 on the dancer, and not even halfway through Stormblood, can't do my last class quest because I'm not far enough along in MSQ. I still haven't done the 50-70 class quests for summoner and scholar (am 69 in that) or RDM's 60-70 (lvl 69 there too) , but I'm not really playing those now, I'll go back and do them all at once. So I can see where people might have forgotten to go do some class quests.

(Probably messed up and ate a stray aoe or didnt do the fire/ice imbued sword right).

Post trial chat:

Salty WHM: you never need single target heals as a dps
Ninja: ha?
Salty WHM: either you miss aoe heals or stand in xxxx
Ninja: got hit 3 times
Ninja: oh right
Me: to be fair, you two did die a lot as healers
Ninja: so it's my fault

Then I left. The reason we wiped two times is BECAUSE the healers weren't healing and also dying a lot. Both had <100k hp before echo and we cleared with 20% echo. It's kind of ironic the healers blame the ninja for eating an aoe when they themselves are responsible for two wipes.
