Roll avoidance on loot: at least warn people before leaving the dungeon.

Hi! I hope it's okay to post here, as it's my first time.
I come to the forums with this issue as it's the first genuine time I've felt disappointed by something in the game.

It was brought to my attention that, if you roll on an item but someone else has not, and you leave the instance, you automatically forfeit the item to the person who has not rolled.

I feel that with the current setup, people are taking advantage of this and there's not enough forewarning about it if you go to leave.

Here are a couple of different ways I suggest this could be tackled:
    1. The loot timer is extended beyond leaving the instance/ only those who have rolled are selected from.
    2. A clear warning is given to people leaving an instance if someone has yet to roll - to let them know that they will be forfeiting the items.

Admittedly I don't know enough about coding to know how the first suggestion would be implemented, but surely the second at the very least, would prevent naïve players (like myself) from being taken advantage of.

For more experienced players that would find this an annoyance in certain things like farming old content, it could simply be disabled from a menu - but I think for sprouts like myself, a very clear confirmation before leaving instances would allow new players to become wise to this underhanded tactic early on.

I found the notification called "Loot" to be enough, once it has disappeared then it's safe to leave the instance. Maybe it needs to be bigger or clearer?

The worst situation is players who don't roll on purpose, possibly thinking everyone else will leave thus giving them the loot automatically (many of us have the patience to wait though so it's pointless). It would however be nice to have an auto-roll option, perhaps that only works for duties that don't have weekly locks; to avoid rolling for the wrong thing.

Thanks Kurando, I definitely think being bigger or clearer would help - or at least having a note somewhere that says If you want loot don't leave the dungeon until it has been distributed (perhaps in the associated active help pop up. From what I remember it says loot will be distributed once everyone has rolled, but it doesn't clarify that you'll miss out if you leave the instance before everyone has rolled).

Sadly I've fallen prey to that sort of player! I'm glad I'm aware of it now, but it makes me wonder how many people are still oblivious to it.

I'm pretty sure the loot button can be made larger in the HUD layout.

But why would you roll on an item and then not wait for it to land in your inventory?

    ... this underhanded tactic ...
    What underhanded tactic?
    • If you roll on loot but the other person does not, and they wait out the timer without having rolled, you get the loot.
    • If you roll on loot but the other person does not, and they roll at the last second, whoever rolls higher gets the loot.
    • If you both roll on loot at any point before the timer runs out, whoever rolls higher gets the loot.

There is no "tactic" here and waiting out the timer doesn't give them any advantage because at best they are in the same position as they would have been just rolling at the beginning; no better.

It's on you to wait for the loot to be distributed if you want something from the loot pool badly enough. If someone else is taking too long to roll on loot, stand up and take a stretch, grab a drink, go pee, or something, and the loot will have resolved by the time you get back.

The "strategy" is they hope you'll just leave out of impatience. It's not the end of the world to wait out the entire timer, but it can be obnoxious. I don't think the game needs to have a warning before you leave, but it would be cool if you could leave after rolling and not have to wait. But hardly a critical issue.

So heres a tip for OP. Do this if you suspect someone is avoiding roll to get you to leave and give them loot for free. Roll on the stuff. Announce in chat that youve already rolled, and that youre going to go to the bathroom(or to get a snack, or whatever else). You can also thank them for a good run if you feel that way. Then dont do anything with your character. You can actually go afk for a min if you want/have to, you can tab out of the game for a minute, or you can just /sit yourself down and chat with friends or whatever. The point is, they should think that waiting will be pointless. You would be surprised how many people suddenly immediately roll when they think youve left and their waiting is only wasting their own time.
