Reassessing the Merger of FFXIV Worlds (02/13/2012)

Character name overlap. So someone who played on a buddy key first month and never again get to force a name change on current customers? This shall be interesting.

only if the player using the buddy pass is currently active if they are not active then the creation date does not take effect

I'm hoping he just neglected to mention that the character has to be active.

1. Character Name Overlap
The decision for which character keeps their original name when identical names clash on a World is based on whether they are ACTIVE OR NOT, rather than what date the character was created. If both are ACTIVE, the character which was created earlier is given priority over the name (based on the time stamp at creation). All other characters with the same name will have to choose a new name.

I know the old way it specifically said active players. I'm just wondering if it was forgotten about or with the redoing of the world mergers they are even redoing name changes. These little details are important.

1) Why did you answer the same question three times in three posts? You only had to say it once.

2) These points were not included until Yoshi updated that post with the information you're saying was there.

Yoshida made an update to his original long follow-up post to provide details that were left out in regards to character and retainer name overlap. I've edited the original post and you can also find the updated changes below.

I think it would be nice if we were given an option to change our names even if there is no conflict. I don't see why not anyway.

this. Might as well give us this option instead of forcing ppl to deactivate/reactivate with mule to change name.

Just an FYI, we are likely getting name changes come 2.0. (Though I am interested and would like a name change with the server merge too.)

Maybe this has been answered, please forgive me if it has... I was reviewing the Loadstone info on the world merge & I am strongly considering moving one of the 2 active characters I have to another world in March.

As long as a player has at least one usable character, a destination World may be chosen for all characters in the service account, including characters that have not yet been paid for.

This part here is what I am looking for clarification on... so does it mean if I move one character, they both go? Or can I just move one and leave the other where it is?

The way I read it, you can choose for each character separately.
