FFXIV's weird prostitution hangup

It's threads like this that remind me that a lot of people are playing a completely different game than I am.

Look, I get that this is a game. It's an escape, it's not real, nobody is at risk, everyone is an adult, lah lah lah.

That's the thing.. everyone is not an adult. FFXIV is not an 18+ only game, and as more and more of this stuff is being openly broadcast in public chat channels it's becoming an issue that should be addressed.

Balmung really is the Moonguard* of FF14. This is definitely not just an FF14 thing.

Soon Data Center travel will be enabled and you will be able to leave Crystal for one of the actually good non degenerates data centers.

Look, part of the reason it's turned into an issue on Balmung is because of the World Visit System. Some of the creepiest comments I've seen on this subject that are being said openly in public chat channels is coming from visitors from *other* servers, who have apparently decided that Balmung's unofficial status as an RP server makes it the perfect dumping ground for their freaky behavior.

In other words, a lot of these "degenerates" are coming over from your own communities. If you would not do this stuff on your own servers, then don't bring it to Balmung.


I just want to point out that the original poster could have, technically, been a 13 year old. Nobody should be comfortable about this.

The interesting thing here is... on Hydaelyn, lore-wise, prostitution is just a job. Like, a legal job, without any kind of stigma behind it. And considering that we're talking about RP, if that were me, I would have just politely refused, without thinking too deep into it and without applying irl biases into it, because on Hydaelyn is something fairly normal.

That said, I think generally people usually check search info before they write in DM (most of the time, at least), so you might write that you arent interesten in ERP there. It should make the situation better at least to a some degree, though probably won't remove unwanted attention entirely. Weird that the bar in question didn't have this info in their ad though, it's pretty vital for getting right visitors.

I love how rpers flip flop when trying to defend the game or community issues.

When someone points out problems with underperforming players who actively refuse to put more effort even though they're aware of it, rpers say "it's just a video game I don't want to feel like it's a job I play to escape reality"

When someone complains about the amount of explicit erp and erp advertising the same rpers say "Well its just like in real life, such venues are real and you're often exposed to these things"

It's only OK for the game to feel like real life when it's convenient for your argument.

Can we really say it is the underbelly of the game world if it is common as it is in FFXIV. I mean when it comes to dark gritty aspects of RP for it to maintain that allure I do think at the very least it should not be so common you see people shouting in town Square promoting their "business" lol

None of this is relevant. It doesn't matter what happens "in real life" or "lore-wise". In the end, on this subject, the only thing that matters is what is and isn't allowed by the Terms of Service we all agree to when using the FFXIV software.
