The great streamer Asmongold is joining FFXIV

The ToS doesn't change just because any specific person decides to start playing FFXIV. So anyone who can follow the ToS can and should feel free to play the game.

If true about Happy, it just shows that people can change. Asmongold himself has said he's not the same as he used to be in the past. Spend more time in FFXIV and maybe Asmongold can change even more unless he isolates himself.

What does this mean?

So, once again, you've accepted that people will just see you as a white knight and will disregard any defense you may make on behalf of the community. Keep in mind that defending the community does not mean defending the actual people who are behaving badly.

I'd be happy to ignore the situation if people didn't make a big deal out of it. So since it's a big deal to some people, why not address it in our own small ways? If you do want to ignore it, then there was no point in giving any explanation in the first place.

This forum, in particular, is a place where FFXIV players can discuss with each other. So anti-FFXIV generalizations are the last thing that needed an explanation, especially from an outside perspective, if, in the end, your only suggestion is to ignore it.

The reality is the ToS does not change but the question is from a marketing PoV would it be wise to ban the top streamer of your game that is the sole reason behind reaching the top on twitch? It will be interesting to see how SE especially their marketing team handles this potential issue. Granted this is based around if they keep the same persona from WoW raiding into FFXIV.

WoW streamers coming to try FFXIV most likely will not have the same motivational factors. Though this is all speculation and depends if he even makes it to raiding he still has a long way to go.

Personally I know I would not like to in a situation if Asmon does maintain his WoW persona in FFXIV and what action to take for their ToS violations though it would not shock me if they did turn a blind eye cause even if all the FFXIv streamers go together I doubt they could pull Asmon numbers.

I do not recall any other ffxiv stream pulling 100k viewers though. I do not know if they have broken 50k.

His WoW persona does openly mock and belittle others sometimes resulting in his fan base also making fun of said player etc . . . but normally it is under the premise that you join his groups with that to be expected. I just do not think some people in FFXIV will be okay with someone calling them out in front of his legion of fans even if they do deserve it. He has mocked people for their transmog in a way some may feel is a personal attack.

In the end will people be offended by a persona or will they just let it go. I do hope he does things like transmog comps and stuff in FFXIV.

As mentioned that is what makes it interesting and I could see raising the temperature of the community. Though only time will tell and I will be looking forward to see how potential issues play out.

Some people were telling me some time ago that Asmongold was this "trash human being" and "they were making fun" or "saying horrible things about Soken's speech". So knowing that there is a side of the internet that loves to do witch-hunts based on hear-say that they don't bother verifying themselves I went to check the vod personally.

And guess what... Asmongold LIKED the speech, genuinely pleased and shocked by how the staff handled the situation, thought the story was really cool, and even commented on how he liked the way they addressed the fans in how they acted in the stage.
So where was these "horrible" things? Well... so, Asmongold's chat rolls at like 50 miles per hour. Obviously, when you have like 50k+ viewers. I had to literally PAUSE the video to find said horrible things. Sent in the chat by random stray people here and there.

So basically, it had nothing to do with him. Because good luck trying to spot every negative thing in a ludicrously busy chat even if you're a mod. Asmongold didn't read it, probably didn't have time to notice it, and if he did, he didn't even aknowledge it. And that makes him a trash human being?

Honestly, so far, and I don't know much about him prior to all this, he seems to be enjoying the game, positively impressed by the PR and the passion of the staff, and generally having a good time. I really don't see what's so terrible. He can't babysit his viewers. He already tries to tell people not to harass anyone.

I kinda figured it had to be intentional. Like, I've understood 'Asmongold' is most definitely a role being played live so yeah. I've been watching him do stuff in FFXIV for a few hours now and I definitely get what people meant a while ago when they expressed that they hoped he'd play FFXIV off stream as.. well, Zack, himself, rather than as 'Asmongold'. He'd probably be able to take his time a bit more and understand things if he weren't streaming it and primarily experiencing the game through his stream persona.

I totally agree. I can't help but feel it's a shame he ultimately went with streaming the game instead of playing it offline since I'm positive he'd have gotten more into it as himself and without the distraction caused by his chat. But, hey, it's his choice. Even if he ends up not liking the game/story, I honestly think it doesn't matter. The game doesn't need his approval or validation. It just may end up not being his cup of tea. This doesn't take anything away from the game itself, and it definitely won't make anyone who loves or enjoys the game love it or enjoy it any less.

Anybody who says Asmon was saying horrible things about Soken or his speech is flat out lying to push an agenda. It's not even a small lie either.

Sadly this is true in a lot of cases.
One of my favorite streamers who does a lot of political debates was labeled a Transphobe because he used a Trans slur *when describing how someone might use a Trans slur without realizing it*, and they left that VERY important context out.
Same person who spread that lie that everyone believes then proceeds to casually use Trans slurs against someone else actually meaning to be offensive themselves lol.
Same thing happened with the N-word for the same person, and now it has been framed as '' he says the N-word all the time ''.

The reason why that happens to this person is because he has a lot of enemies because he doesn't align with either of the extreme and obnoxious '' sides '' in the US political terminally online climate.
So everyone wants to tear him down including screwing him over and causing problems irl too.
I think it's sorta the same with Asmongold too, a lot of Twitch streamers have jumped on that bandwagon because it's good for networking and exposure.
And there's this mentality of '' you can only be with us or against us '', so those people view him as some crazy alt-righter or something by default.

It's nice to see he's having fun and his chat ain't being dumb about it. Although, if I was him I would be very annoyed at all the people constantly following me around every where. Let him play his way and experience everything as he wants.
