Harassment to Asmongold on his 1st day stream is an Embarassment to FF Community

It’s too bad this happened. Hopefully our own FFXIV streamers and content providers will condemn this behavior. If they speak out against trolling this guy maybe it will stop a lot of people from harassing him.

I don’t understand why people are so afraid of WoW players. Having new players, more subs, more money means more content for us. I’ve said before the WoW community isn’t more toxic than FFXIV. WoW just doesn’t enforce its policies like FFXIV. Ffxiv players, in general, are afraid of getting banned or suspended, WoW players aren’t. The new WoW players will adjust and it won’t be any different than now.

I disagree, I got told to go die of cancer in WoW and my crime? I was killing mobs back in WoD for a fill the bar daily quest and the guy didn't like that I was slowing his progress. WoW's community is very toxic and it's very toxic to new players, they've adopted a gogogo mentality leading to players wanting things done rapidly which often leads to new players being kicked from groups or insulted for their DPS, if you've been around WoW's reddit you'd know this.

Blizzard may not enforce their policies like Square does but that's still no excuse to throw whatever decency you have out of the window, many toxic players in WoW choose to be like this and there's many many more examples I could dig up for you. In the time I've played FFXIV, I've had one negative experience but WoW? I could write a novel.

Sadly 'celebrities' don't get to pick and choose when their status does or doesn't apply to them. The community or fanbase sadly does that for them. It's not really a situation that will be solved by simply ban waving people, warning people, or suspending them. They'll warn them all, so what? 200 different people will only carry out the same endeavor the following day, and then suddenly the effort that GM went through to try and solve the issue was suddenly fruitless.

If you ask me, the situation really goes beyond what a GM would be reasonably capable of dealing with, without it being an incredibly tedious or inefficient process. Situations like these require going beyond just enforcing the ToS, and more in making arrangements.

Too much cost, and it's just not something you solve through enforcing the terms of service. You'd be infinitely warning people until the hype dies.

I don't know, perhaps sizeable instances of each ARR zone, to name but one obvious one. It doesn't solve the issue outright, but it makes it manageable on the streamer. A lot of this could have been avoidable or manageable had Asmongold went through the caution of not announcing his server/DC, or at the very least blocking the screen and doing all the preliminary setup, in addition to creating a delay. It wouldn't eliminate it entirely because I hazard to guess people will just stalk until they find. But it would have at least given him some respite to start the story without congestion errors on the first quest.

Is there anything to the argument that the zones could have been instanced if Asmon had only answered to the auto-reply? I read that GMs had actually proposed that but I have no idea if that's actually true or not.

I like the mental gymnastics behind the conspiracy theory that WoW players who wanted him not to play FFXIV infiltrated the game 1 month ago when he said he would be joining, learned how to play the game, leveled up to 80 and cleared all Savage and Ultimates in order to be ready to grief him at the starting zone.

Contrary to, you know, the more probable option that FF players who dislike him because he likes a different game decided to bully him out of the game. There are no shortage of those people in here, as the other 92 pages thread is proof of.

It's a really sad scene to see. What could have been an important milestone in the history of FFXIV ended up being tarnished by people involved in a Team Jacob vs Team Edward kind of immature drama.

There's no argument that it would be a thing, at least definitively, but it rests on the principle that the luggage he brings with him can potentially congest zones and impede on genuine new players' progress.

At the height of Asmon's stream, which was a positive one where Asmon enjoyed his time, FFXIV went from a 5-10k average viewership on Twitch (5k is their average viewers, 10k during the promotion) to over 200k viewers on twitch. FFXIV was trending on Twitter, FFXIV was trending on twitch, the event was even being reported in a few gaming news circles.

This sort of publicity is the sort FFXIV will never get again. Because of this no, he really shouldn't have. Even if cactuar players have their gaming disrupted (though not by very much imo).

I highly doubt GMs have the power to toggle instances, SE usually uses a maintenance to turn them on/off.
