The amount of houses requested for is so massive it would make no sense to implent it, and if so people should be allowed to own 5 houses on same character or something, as in these wards would become really really empty.

I just want a damn house in Ishgard.

Plot is relinquished [placard does state for Relocation or Sale during their respective phases] > Invisible 10-hour-timer starts for Relocation (that's 42% of a real day to decide). Once Relocation timer is up no more Relocation and the plot goes up for sale > next 0-4 hours that plot can not be bought (that is minimum of 58% of a real day to login and see there could potentially be a plot up, given the relocation goes unphased) > 4-12 hours the invisible timer starts (like the current one) > invisible timer goes off or after 12 hours > the plot goes up for insta-purchase. The minimum amount of turn around time would be 14 hours from relinquish to purchase with max being 26 hours. Relocation still gets priority but timers favor a buyer. Lastly, the knowledge of a rough buy window with only an 8 hour spam window is priceless. What do you think?

Tbh, the only two ways we're going to make this equally fair (or equally unfun) is to either have a housing raffle for a plot (where everyone buys a ticket, one person gets it, and the rest get moogle mails with their ticket back) or we just straight up auction off the house. I'm only OK with the later if we get something like EVE Online's PLEX ( https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Accounts#PLEX ) within FFXIV, so that way someone can throw money at SE, get a ton of gil from the AH by selling off the PLEXs (maybe fantasias here?), and then spending it that way as that provides an RMT path that's safe for everyone involved that doesn't dump gil into the economy while SE takes their cut.

If you can be awake and online when the servers come up for a new ward opening(like ishgard will be), you WILL have a chance at a house. Before(a day/week/whatever) the patch goes live, tour the sample ward to see which plots you like the most. If you have one favorite, practice which aethernet option brings you closest and the path you need to run to get to the placard. Having a couple you like is best. Larges and mediums will have the most competition(expect those to sell out in under 10 minutes), but your server is getting more then 1400 new houses all at once so you are guaranteed a shot. You see the key is, you cant actually camp out in front of the placard of the house you want - no one can. The wards dont exist for you to zone into/out of until after the patch goes live. So what you actually do is log out either at the main aetheryte for the town you want to live in, or at the other entrance to the wards. Camp out with the money to purchase in your inventory(you dont want to assume you have time to visit retainers to withdraw money), and as soon as you come online use /busy to make sure no one can interfere with you(unlikely, but why risk it). Then click on the aetheryte-residential aethernet/walk into or interact with the entrance to the district. This will bring up the list of wards. Any house that hasnt been bought yet will have a price listed in white(purchased lots will have a person or FC name in red or green). Quickly scan the wards for one where your first choice is open - keeping in mind that people are slower to get around to the sub-division lots so you have extra time there. Zone over, do your practiced run. If you are the first person there, you will just click and buy. Someone being a botter makes no difference, first to arrive will be all that matters. If you see someone beat you to it, you can try to quickly pop back to the entrance and search for another ward with your first choice. Otherwise, get to your second/third choice. While the larger plots will sell out super fast(5-10 mins), the 1000ish small lots will take a while to all get snagged up. As short as 30-45 minutes on the busiest servers, while the slowest servers could take a day or more for that many lots to be gobbled up. So even if you dont get into the server in the very first wave and get que'd, youll have a real shot at a house provided you can be awake and log in roughly when the servers go live on patch day.
All of the above pre-supposes that this will be a FFA open. If they do a limited release for FCs only then the rules change. If you arent in an FC then you will have time to make a solo FC and level it up(theyll probly give you a 2 weeks heads up and it honestly doesnt take as long as you might think). If you are already solo FC'd or have an FC without a lot, just log in relatively early on patch day. With personals, all the houses will sell fairly quick. If its FC only, logging in during the morning hours will get you your choice of small lot(the larges and mediums will still be gone in 10 mins). Most servers dont have 1400+ FCs* looking for housing, so there will be lots available all day(and likely all week - most servers would still have some unclaimed when the restriction is lifted and personal houses can be bought).
*Yes, im aware that some of the lots will be relocated into so it wouldnt actually take 1400+ FCs to fill the land. I doubt it will be close to a majority. The people ive talked to about this by and large dont like the feel of the firmament for housing, so unless the housing district is significantly different and better they wont be leaving their old lots. This leaves more and better choices for those who do like it. And yes, im one who doesnt plan to move. I like my ward, i like my district, i like my lot.
Pretty easy, there will be many wards opened up. Plan your route and don't pick 1st or last ward and go for sub division.
Also helps to have SSD to cut down loading times.
I managed to score 2 Larges over the past couple years this way for personal and my FC. It's not impossible.
Obviously you need to get online asap patch goes live.

Yeah, I'm trying to get a small somewhere "undesirable" (I personally LOVE the Goblet, just not as much as I like Ishgard/Mists), so that I can relocate to either Ishgard or somewhere in the Mists. I just want a personal small, I have no ambitions or creative capacity for a Med or larger.
y'all actin like we aren't seeing some of the highest subs in the game's history for this multi-billion dollar company.
yes, certainly it would be awful to their finances to add more wards for the ridiculously high subscriber count. we must perish the thought of them using the money the game earns to better fund one of the core aspects of it.
