The Amazon cloud promotion and the Butterfinger promotion. In Japan they’ve done promotions with cards (bluebird) and other places like 711 and chocolate.

All of those are paywalls if you consider gifting someone the service of a month of a streamer a paywall.

If it’s any consolation, a lot of the promo stuff has gotten recycled for promos. You might see a similar promo again, and you might see the rewards distributed through other means in the future.

I'm not worked up, I'm just voicing my opinion that it's a pretty crappy campign, but you defend it I suppose?

    For NA, yes.
EU always been screwed on these (for various reasons), at least we had one couple years ago where we could just pickup timecards for mounts.

While i agree that the mount could have just been put on the mogstation; I believe this is more or less a way for SE to take advantage of a opportunity to really get the presence of the game known to a audience demographic that usually only see's games like World of Warcraft, Rust, Minecraft, and other Twitch-popular game titles on the top row of the channel categories.

As of yesterday morning, i read FFXIV was sitting on the forth twitch panel in the game category, which is not nothing.

I'm not a fan of Twitch, but i'm a fan of FFXIV, and i understand this move completely; they've taken Warcraft's crown as top MMO, now they intend to seal the deal from the looks of it and drive that final nail into the coffin.

This was most likely them trying to get more twotch views to over shadow other games.

First off this most likely wasn't handled by XIV's community team, but thats more then apparent. SE probably had their general PR team handle this and they probably just went to twitch themselves instead of XIVs community team to ask for the top streams for the game, picked names at random and called it a day.

This was probably done because people in other regions couldn't get the Butterfingers mount, and this is a longrequested mount. The lack of representation is because they don't really care. They just wanted names and numbers, it was most likely a very binary approach with little regard to who did what, just the event being done.

I didn't know anything about it until people on twitter started complaining about it. You would think this wouuld have been announced in game or on the launcher but I at least didn't see anything there.

Ultimately if XIV had more content worth looking at on twitch it wouldn't had been this.....sad of an event? People are only watching for the mount and then XIV will return to barely getting views like always.

I wish XIV on Twitch didnt simply amount to all of this, I wish people could be represented within the twitch community better. But I don't expect SE to suddenly fix its history with being in touch with its own communities simply because XIV exists. Se has been and always will be a billion dollar company that doesn't pay much attention to its consumers unless its them going bankrupt again. And when I say that I mean the suits, who most likely made this choice to begin with.

The thing is that this event isn't making FFXIV get more views, it's just people tossing 20 bucks to the few fortunate on the list, and then they don't even need to watch that streamer ever again :/

If they wanted views, there's a Twitch feature called DROPS. For example, if you watch somebody's stream for X hours while they play FFXIV, then you get the mount. That would increase greatly the viewer count and it would actually help the streamers, and also it can be activated for everyone instead of a short list. The thing is that these events may cost money to SE (maybe SE has to pay mopney to Twitch for a drops event), and this one costs 0 (and makes Twitch gain money with the gifteds subs).

I don't know, it's a bit sad for streamers that didn0t make it into the list, and even if every streamer was on that list, this doesn't really help gain new viewers :/

It can’t purely be an attempt to get more viewers on twitch. If that was Square’s intent, we’d see anyone streaming ffxiv included in the promotion.

No, this seems to be an attempt to increase *subscription * metrics for ffxiv as well as reward/promote *specific * streamers Square has determined are good ambassadors of the game.

The reasons behind this specificity hidden to us, but we bound To be playing this game of “if this why not that” no matter who Square put on the list.

There was no need for a list in the first place, beside the obvious...

Who picked this list? Hell 80% of these streamers aren't even online. Please extend this out to more XIV content creators because as it stands this is horrible (for the US side)
