Both FFXIV and WoW are doomed to die the same way. They are effectively surviving because of player nostalgia and a dirth of content patches to keep the momentum up.

I'd say that if they're too different, they wouldn't make for a good comparison. It's because they have many commonalities that people can compare and contrast. The specific differences, as well as how everything fits together, can lead some people to enjoy both games for different (or same) reasons, dislike both games for different (or same) reasons, or prefer one to the other, even to the point of very much loving the one and hating the other. That's just how different people can be.

Nevermind the new content and MSQ and new activities lol
And id say FFXIV has a very smart system. People view it as lack of content, but its simply spreading it out.
If everything planned for the expansion were dropped all at once, you know there are people with way more free time then the rest of us that would burn through everything in a month or 2, then complain they have nothing to do.
Cutting content we’ve had in previous expansions isn’t what i’d call “spreading it out”. I still burn through everything within a month or two, them spreading it out doesn’t really help it much.Nevermind the new content and MSQ and new activities lol

All Yoshi-P was really getting at is that you'd not hit the same kind of success with a game built like this now as it did back in 2014. Just way too many competing models right now with other titles. I actually think there are things that MMOs could steal from Genshin Impact as well as something like Resident Evil Village. Also space and server costs are a thing with 2nd gen MMOs.Nevermind the new content and MSQ and new activities lol

I don't have any nostalgia with FF. I played the beginning of X and XIII but XIV is the only one I've completed. This game is great and insanely successful. Maybe it's because it's an actual good game with great content? It's not just surviving. It's thriving!

This was pretty cool! I didn't know about it, so thanks for sharing!Source: https://twitter.com/SarahCotner/stat...65857842163713

So strange I had to go through the WoW forums to learn this and I assume someone over there follows a Blizzard dev who posted this.
It seems that after the FF14 team sent a congratulations card months ago on the successful launch of Shadowlands the Blizzard team decided to reciprocate with their own card.
I like how that Blizzard dev words that Tweet and it is extremely accurate as the communities themselves are fighting like children all the time.![]()
It’s also the only good mmo on the market rn. Let’s wait and see what happens when the newer mmo’s come out in 2022/2023 that aren’t limited by their engine lmao

MMOs have a bad reputation and XIV still has the 1.0 luggage. Even thought it has been changed from that to the "critically acclaimed".
XIV used to live on nostalgia and to be a massive theme park.
Can't say that anymore. The game is at a point where they drew mostly everything they could from past FF, we're at the point they have to reimagine existing concept such as the Weapons from FF 7 to implement them in the game.
We also have a lot of new bosses and content that isn't based on Nostalgia.
ShB remained a good expansion despite covid and cut content. Maybe in 10 years, people will play for Nostalgia about ShB.
But right now, people play for the current content they enjoy and for future content.
When Riot MMO will be release, I'll definitely check it out for a bit of fresh air, thought.
I mean, it’s still a massive theme park what do you mean? Weapons weren’t original, they’re ff7. The storyline may be different but it doesn’t change the fact the boss idea is directly ripped from it. Nier raid bosses were literally ripped from nier itself, music as well. 5.3 trial was major theme park fanservice,Bozja being ff12 inspired what with glamour and bosses and music directly ripped from the game, and apparently Endwalker will be majorly pulling from ff4,ffx, and ff2. So i’m not sure what you mean by “they drew everything they could from past ff.” That isn’t even close to remotely being true. There’s multiple games they can still pull from and are. This game has and always will be an ff theme park.MMOs have a bad reputation and XIV still has the 1.0 luggage. Even thought it has been changed from that to the "critically acclaimed".
