WoW devs sent a congrats card to the FF14 team

WoW is not in the best status and their community is already complaining about 9.1 which comes out at the end of July, a whopping 9 months after the expac release.
I hope that someday WoW will be back on its feet and SQEX will send a card when the time is right. When Blizzard will be back to Blizzard.

Yeah, 9.1 looks like it'll be more of the same despite what players have been requesting for months. If players don't like a feature (or multiple features), the devs double down on it. If the players still don't like it, they triple down on it as an attempt to figuratively beat them into submission. What 9.1's content is...is just that. More of the same with no real consideration of player feedback. And that is why I don't think anything will change under the current leadership. They'd have to clean house from top to bottom. As things currently stand, the dev team designs the game defensively and reactionary because it's their way or the highway and god forbid anyone plays the game without the "raid or die" mentality. Can't have that! It took some time but I opted for the highway.

That's because game development takes more than months. That content has probably been in the pipeline since before the WoW expansion launched, or shortly thereafter. That's why it usually takes until the end of an expansion to "fix" it. The real problem for WoW is that the community has no trust in the devs and isn't willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. It just seems like there is an aura of negativity that infects everything in the game.

There are lots of things in FFXIV that have taken a long time to fix or for them to respond, but because the playerbase is more forgiving and understanding on the most part, it doesn't negatively affect the game as much.

So strange I had to go through the WoW forums to learn this and I assume someone over there follows a Blizzard dev who posted this.

It seems that after the FF14 team sent a congratulations card months ago on the successful launch of Shadowlands the Blizzard team decided to reciprocate with their own card.

I like how that Blizzard dev words that Tweet and it is extremely accurate as the communities themselves are fighting like children all the time.

This is not really that unusual to be honest;

Obviously while a lot of it relationships come down to money and contractual obligations, there is just a lot of regular comradery between major studios/businesses on the "personal" side. It's mostly just in the fans' heads that there is any bad blood between them.

A good example was between George Lucas and Steven Spielberg regularly sending messages back and forth when their movies beat each other at the box office; I seem to remember James Cameron and the Avengers being similarly friendly.

I mean, even athletes that regularly beat the hell out of each other on the field (football, basketball or boxing etc) are often friends off the field.

It would be more weird if they WEREN'T friendly to each other.

As if Activision would ever let that happen. Blizzard suddenly returning to their prime is about as likely as Westwood or Visceral coming back from the dead under EA. Or Bioware suddenly putting out good Dragon Age and Mass Effect games again. It's a case of 'keep dreaming', the real Blizzard is called Dreamhaven now.

In order for 'benefit of the doubt' to be given, there needs to be something there to make you think twice. Benefit of the doubt is something you give when someone fucks up once. That's when your 'benefit of the doubt', ergo, a second chance, is given. Blizzard seems to consistently shit all over WoW's player base without ever really giving them any reason to think that they feel bad about it for even a second. There's a reason even WoW dedicated youtubers, like say, Bellular, are dipping into FFXIV where they never would have if WoW were still in a good state.. because Blizzard is giving them nothing.

I mean there's nothing surprising about any of this. WoW playerbase leans more towards people on their 30s-40s whereas FFXIV's demographic consists mostly of kids and teens, and kids and teens love to engage in "Team Jacob vs Team Edward" arguments that the rest of the world simply don't care about.

If this is used to imply that WoW's playerbase are more "adult" than FFXIV's and as such less toxic and miserable, how is it that the reputation of our community is generally more positive than WoW's?

that's not what they said or implied at all...? again you seem to read too much into things apparently
and speaking about reputations; before I started playing FF last year, I've never heard anyone say a bad word about WoWs, aside from the usual guild drama - on the other hand, I had heard bad things about XIVs
also, I don't think I've ever seen google docs about really stupid drama from people that play WoW, while I've seen several of them in regards to XIV and I'm friends with people that love and share this kinda stuff around (that played WoW for far longer than XIV)
anecdotal evidence, sure, but I don't think it's seen as positive in comparison to WoW as you think it is, from my experience at least
