I mean there's nothing surprising about any of this. WoW playerbase leans more towards people on their 30s-40s whereas FFXIV's demographic consists mostly of kids and teens, and kids and teens love to engage in "Team Jacob vs Team Edward" arguments that the rest of the world simply don't care about.

Saw this back when it was given, 2019, and it was very cute (and very well made) back then, still is now, though a little strange to see it brought up again like it's new news lol.

Dreamhaven obviously siphoned a lot of legacy Blizzard talent already but I wonder if there'd be any benefit for SE- seeing as the relationship within the company, and Yoshida being kind / respectful to Blizzard talent, too bad for the language barrier though (no fault to anyone); otherwise, I'm sure it would have happened already. If I recall one issue Yoshida mentioned before wasn't always a money problem, but more often a time and talent- and he didn't say it like "we're not talented" but in so much that often just throwing more and more money at the wall isn't the solution (which makes sense, you can easily find events in the world where someone thought more money onto the fire would be the solution).

Yoshi-P expressed interest years ago about wanting to partner up with Blizzard to create cross-promotion game content for both FFXIV and Warcraft, but it never happened... because... . actually I could ever find a published reason for "why" online.

I always got the sense that the friendly relationship between FFXIV and Warcraft was one-side (this could be in my head though), but it's a shame that partnership never came to fruition; because I think that would have been really cool and would have helped BOTH games in the long run.

So the news of this card just feels... it's nice and all, but... I just wish this whole relationship over the years didn't have to feel like a competitive bitter rivalry when it could have been more like a family affaire.

Hmmm, yeah i don't know about that- I'm 41 (almost 42); most people I know in FFXIV came from FFXI which is older then WoW by 2 years; and they are in a age demographic of 30 to 50.

It's probably very true that a bulk of the community's demographic is young, but then again so was/is Warcraft's.

I'd argue Warcraft and FFXIV's player age demographic is probably about the same.

Mhmmm I don't really buy this.

Assuming all the fc mates I've met over the five years I've been in (I think I'm up to 7 or 8 guilds now) were telling the truth of their age, most of them were in the mid-twenties to up to their mid-thirties. Of course, there were outliers such as actual teens and some people over 50 but that's the average I've encountered.

The mmorpg gaming generation of today were the kids that made up a bulk of early mmorpgs like WoW/FF11/Runescape, etc. Today's teens are way too spread out into different varieties of modern mmo.

If you're capable of healing DRK back in ShB (or any tanks), then you'll heal EW DRK just fine.

The person who made the original Tweet just seems like an FFXIV/WoW player, and the responding party is just a dev for WoW. The original poster may have just discovered it. I certainly never knew about it, and I'm fairly active in both communities.

The forum post was also made by a local sh*t-starter probably jumping at the opportunity to make another FFXIV thread, which has become a favourite Sunday troll topic lately to annoy people.

But Haruka isn't wrong. WoW is living rent free in OP's head.

In case anyone missed the link to the full image in the side bar of the tweet:

I think that's pretty cute. I still can't see a murloc and not hear their iconic gurgly noises.

I don't doubt the "gift" was largely for the PR.
To some extent, everything any company does on social media is PR and posturing. Before this tweet could become an official message broadcast to the community at large, some suit in a high-up position had to approve it because they thought it would make the company look good. However, I have no problem believing it originated from a sincere place and that there is mutual admiration between the staff of both games. If you're deep into MMO development, you've probably played the big games and appreciate what they bring to the table (or what popular features you should steal, lol).

Do we have any sort of reliable data on this, or are you just making things up? I'm turning 40 staying 39 in December, and I find it questionable that a game courting primarily children and teens would be so thoroughly jam-packed full of innumerable cameos and references to a series dating back as far as 1987. If ever there were a game for ancient, lifelong FF fanboys like me, this is it.

Also, I would caution you against assuming only young people engage in petty "us versus them" identity politics. We have the "ok boomer" meme for a reason.

Post ShB, in an interview with SQEX about the story, they mentioned that the demographic was between 20-30 which is why they opted for a more mature story.
Yep, you're pulling thoses numbers out of an infamous place.

Remind yourself that it is a noisy minority. You hear them but it's a minority like the WoW noisy minority calling XIV a "weeb and furry game".

As for the main topic, it's cool to be reminded that we can enjoy both games.
WoW is not in the best status and their community is already complaining about 9.1 which comes out at the end of July, a whopping 9 months after the expac release.
I hope that someday WoW will be back on its feet and SQEX will send a card when the time is right. When Blizzard will be back to Blizzard.
