Have you ever been kicked for not having "good enough" gear?

Leveling up squadrons is one of the most worthwhile things I've done in this game. Set the entire group to level 5 Offense and they melt dungeons faster than any player group that would whine about "carrying" you. Squadrons >>> Other players from 1-60. 61-71 you'll probably need to buy gear for, but then you do 71-80 in Bozja and you're good.

I was leveling up my WHM back when I was still fairly new to the game. To level I was simply doing the highest level dungeon I could, the idea being to learn how to heal by doing content that would make me have to do it. When I reached Stone Vigil, I couldn't keep the tank alive for anything. Even small pulls were a struggle because my gear was way below what it should have been at that point. Rather than me being kicked, the tank quit. I apologized for not being geared enough to handle the dungeon, and left the party myself.

While I wasn't kicked, I darn well should have been.

I got yelled at once because the group thought my gear was bad when I was levelling WHM and couldn't keep a tank alive on a single pull.

Then I pointed out that I was in full Scaevan while the tank was in.....unaugmented Ironworks. In Dohn Mheg.

Then I left. Ain't got the patience for that.

I've been in a party that kicked someone for not having good enough gear, but in that particular instance there was literally no excuse. We were in akademia anyder and their entire left side aside from the weapon was scaevan gear. It took us forever to reach the first boss and the healer was having to focus on the tank alone even with single pulls. And the game literally gives you a free set of 80 gear.
So yeah, I didn't feel too bad about them getting kicked.

Only once when leveling WHM. It was a ARR dungeon, I Stone Vigil. I had trouble keeping the tank alive and the others told me I really need to update my gear. Everyone else was fine, it was really just me. I had accidentally turned in part of my gear for company seals and didn't notice it, just used auto gearing without checking what I was wearing, saved it and queued.
I usually pay very close attention to my gear and keep it updated as best as I can. That one was definitely deserved because I was weaing some lv 10 stuff and hadn't even noticed.

I had another case of an almost-kick when I queued for story Ravana and had the absolute best gear in every slot I could get but since I was lv 53, I wasn't overgeared - just properly geared for the level. Tank said I'm undergeared and even tried a vote kick after we wiped to not killing adds but it thankfully didn't pass and one of the dps chimed in, saying that there's literally no better gear you can have at that level.

But I had lots of cases with other people before they set min ilvl for leveling dungeons. SCH wearing a ~34ish weapin in Aery, another one with a 49ish weapon in Doma, a tank with low 63ish gear in Holminster, a BLM in early HW gear in Doma, a tank with low level caster gear in Brayflox and a BRD with a ARR weapon in Dohn Mheg are the ones that come to mind right now. But I know there've been more cases. The one with the tank in Holminster even escalated into a huge party chat discussion with lots of insults from the tank and he ended up traveling on Shiva to insult me.

How did they get in??? Isn't there an item level requirement?

It is not the gear that makes people boot others, it is the lack of perceived effort on the part of the individual going into specific kinds of content. Just thought I'd put that in there.

Item level requirement for pug DFs is just an average, and there is still the issue up to Heavensward levels where all accessories can be equipped by any job. Reminded me of a Dark Knight in Dun Scaith I think it was, couldn't hold aggro worth a candle and it turned out he was wearing a mix of healer and aiming right sides to skirt the item level. This changed in Stormblood where they became job locked going forward.

I know, I got hard locked on MSQ because of item level.

I'm trying to figure out how people are getting into ShB and SB dungeons with trash low level gear.

The item level locks in Leveling were only added a few patches ago. Before that, you could end up in anything you had unlocked as long as you were high enough level, regardless of gear. You could be in level one glamour gear and get tossed into Mt Gulg.
