I understand why they do it, I just think it's funny how it's portrayed. Not that I care to see dozens of these "experts" watch the EW trailer. Then again, I also don't watch any actual FFXIV creators either. It's not about being a career, but it is similar in that it's supposed to show you their experience and point of view. If they say "WoW veteran", than supposedly they're used to the various WoW incarnations and may still like WoW but also might be looking to try something new. On the other hand, "WoW refugee," while having an unfortunate connotation, does imply that they do not like the current WoW.
YouTube video titles are supposed to be catchy (as a neutral term rather than "clickbaity" which I feel people tend to misuse to label videos they don't like), and short, descriptive terms usually work better.![]()

Yeah, I haven't played WoW since 2016. Before then, I played all sorts of MMOs from 1999-2016. Since Overwatch launched, that was where I'd been (except for a little nostalgia with City of Heroes: Homecoming) until about two weeks ago when I jumped into FF14. Just got sick of Overwatch and PvP games in general, finally. They were never my thing before OW, anyway. In an alliance raid, it's not worth taking what people say seriously unless it's targeted at you specifically. If they specifically mention your name, you should report them for being rude to you.
- There have been WoW refugees since the game relaunched in 2013. You could say it started with WoW and FFXI refugees.
- A majority of people with the crown icon (veteran players) used to play WoW years ago, or still do occasionally.
- WoW refugees have been falling into this game for a really long time. Many people you meet played it at some point.
- Don't misunderstand! The game attracts people brand new to MMOs, friends of people who play, people who like the FF series generally, people from other MMOs, it even seemed to get a lot of people from Overwatch. There is just a massive crossover of people who have played both FFXIV and WoW.
If they are just saying meaningless things and not attacking a specific person, it's not worth taking it seriously. They aren't really that mad. Wiping and dying in alliance raids is normal. It's normal for half the alliance to wipe and get resurrected 5 times and that's even fully expected in the design. If the entire alliance wipes sometimes, that's just how it is.
If someone is salty about a wipe like that, they usually aren't taken seriously and probably aren't as mad as they come across. If you still find it offensive or they target you specifically, offending people is against the rules and they do act on it if you report it.

It's been awesome seeing places like Ul'dah, which used to be a ghost town on my server, be absolutely flooded with new players! New players that came from wow come into the linkshell I'm in and we have nothing but positive experiences!
They're coming to a new game they think might be the right one, and we should welcome them with open arms!
Take everything with a grain of salt, OP.
Most people don't care who joins, as long as you aren't overly toxic. A stereotype doesn't represent the individual.
Imo, having new people join is way better than not having people at all, more people means more lively cities in the end. Everyone has their own goal and endgame for FFXIV that doesn't always end up being raiding. Some people just play for fun and some to hang out with others. Some even have Triple Triad as their endgame and that's fine too.

Truthfully? It’s more of a few bad apples spoiling the barrel.
Most people just don’t really care where you came from and are happy to have you along. There’s a huge chance you might even find a FC full of refugees that you can share “war stories” with from WoW. If you do meet someone who’s a jerk, they’re most likely just trying to get a rise out of you.
Wait, is this not another thread by Titanmen? I tought i had learned to recognize 'em Just by the title.. maybe i Need to go back to studying

IMPORTANT NOTE: FFXIV Forums, Community on steam and subreddits can be really toxic but our community in-game is not. You may find some idiots here and there but they are not everywhere. As a single player, my preference is to avoid any contact at all cost.
hope is the first step on the road to disappointment

I don't really see a lot of hate towards "wow" refugees. There is bound to be a huge amount of crossover, since most mmo players have tried WoW at some point. While I welcome all players to come and enjoy the game I am a little apprehensive about people bringing a toxic mentality common in competitive end game content for MMOs. Despite being around for so long, for the most part the in-game community in FFXIV is not jaded. You can say hi in groups and people say hi back, new people can make mistakes without being mistreated, etc...
If there is animosity, I think that's one area it come from.

I totally agree. Forums and social media are full of toxic's who want to imply the game is the same way. It's not at least not the one I'm playing.
Certainly appears to be another one of his alts. Some just love to stir the pot.
