I'm a bit on the fence when it comes to arguments concerning undercutters. On the one hand, I can understand it sucks being unable to sell for a profit, and also sucks when people undercut by huge amounts. However, it also sucks when materials are expensive. And really, folks shouldn't be saying "Well, it'll sell at this price and keep selling at this price because this item is supposed to be this price." The rules of supply and demand do basically say that if supply of an item skyrockets (Like, say, because of people trying to do achievements) and demand plummets (For example, people powerlevelling through newbie levels and not bothering with low level gear), then prices are going to drop through the floor.

For an item to be worth a decent amount of money, it has to be both difficult to get, and in great demand. Unfortunately, the vast majority of the crap you obtain that you have to sell at a loss will indeed sell at a loss because people get that crap all the time. If you're selling items and being undercut, before you rage you should first ask the following two questions: "Why am I selling this instead of using it" and "Why would someone want this." If you can't think of a reason why the average person out there would want this, despite you not wanting it, then you probably can't expect to sell it for much.

I've seen it selling for 1.5 k each, so I just gave up and traded it in for seals.

Another good example is Materia. It is based on demand, therefore Tier III is generally more expensive than IV on some. Tier I and II are useless. SE should completelly remove Tier I and II since noone is bothering to meld gear under lvl 50 classes anymore.

Let me guess, "it will be fixed in 2.0"
Well the problem with Materia's T1/T2 being useless is because of the EXP curve making it useless to really gear up until the cap itself. If the EXP curve were to emulate XI at the very least, lower tiers of Materia would be far more useful.

every one is firesaling items. this happens when the people hording items suddenly flood the market with materials

there doing this because of the server merges. its not just this server but all the servers are seeing deinflation of gil as players and RMT dump their supplies onto the market

make good use of it might be the last time you ever see prices hit a peak low

what you lot need to do is play the market, buy out the cheap stuff to make a profit at the prices you feel befit things. if you can actively keep your priced items the norm, then the general pricings will eventually level out.

might also be an idea to make more low level equipment, since the prices of those are absurdly high and could do with a little more supply to meet demand.

i'm not a crafter, and i'm not particularly good at playing the market myself, but in theory, you could earn far more simply buying and selling than crafting new stuff.

many players want to craft (demand) = craft material increase price
many players can craft (supply) = finish products a dime a dozen

The main reason why matz are more expensive than the finished product.
