Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

Hello, we're all aware Viera has the same body model as hyur and miqos, it's just scaled up. You gave viera so many animations that were copy and paste from Elezen. Not even viera hair is adjusted to look natural with viera ears, so I don't buy that it's a huge issue to adjust hair, I really don't. Though I must say, I'd never considered the work needed for cutscenes.

I get that it adds to the amount of work, and I've said that all along. But still, it's a massive kick in the teeth for players of Viera and Hrothgar to know for certian that they're increasing this amount of work with male viera, with absolutely nothing done to improve the issue of us being cut out of new content and rewards. They just say "keep waiting", but we're done waiting when you tell us that the problem will only be worse in the next expansion.

I guess I'll go against the grain and say I hope they don't that and focus on bringing the modern aesthetics over instead.

Every race/gender combination has their own set of exclusive styles and it would only serve to cheapen viera further to pawn off the male hairstyles to the females and the female styles to the males.

If they wanted to bring over modern aestheics they would have, as they were giving it to all other races and fixing it for miqote and au ra horns as well. They just won't. They said they would and then changed it pretty quickly and said viera would be getting race exclusive hairstyles. I rather have male viera hair than none at this point. I think we can maybe hope for the mogstation hair, since we paid for it and it just seems like bad company policy to give part of the playerbase 2/3 of payable content. And cheapen? They released two races halfassed. Viera came out cheapened to begin with.

I am just kinda baffled here. Honestly and truly baffled. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad male Vieras (and later female Hrothgars) will be implemented into the game but ooooh boy. The previous problems current players of these races should've been addressed. I appreciate the dev team working hard to add male Vieras, but why was the time not spent on letting us use the new hairstyles and hats? Why is this all being so nonchalantly not addressed properly?

You just proved my point with my previous comment. If they wanted to, they would have. But they were busy with male viera. ON THEIR FREE TIME. Im going to implode. I mean it is GREAT that bunnyboys and hrothgirls are coming but man they couldnt have waited a bit more? They couldve said "we will implement them in 7,5" or something and kept the buzz going? And then used that free time to fix what is currently broken? I am really hoping they actually upgraded femviera at the same time as they did this, because now it just seems like a plot to make more money and I can guarantee you it worked, suddenly limsa is full of vieras again when there were so few before. So many people will fantasia again back and forth. Then we will have 3 broken races.

I'm with you, I've been annoyed about it for 2 years as well. I do feel it would cheapen them even further though; limited headgear, limited hair, not even a unique hempen set, and then male viera hair too?

But if it's male viera hair or nothing at all I suppose that's better, but it wouldn't matter much to me because I won't stay a viera in that case.

That is actually true, we didnt even get our own hempen sets (Im hoping they just release them for all tbh but that is another thread). I dont think we will get the male viera hair either, tbh. Since the female hairs have flowers, pigtails and such and I dont think they want to move the female hairs over to the males....although tbf the latest hairs have been "unisex" for the other races so...miracles do happen.

We haven't seen all male hairstyles yet but I can see how a few of the ones we have seen could work better as unisex styles than most of the very obviously feminine styles female viera have would on male characters.

It's not even that I think the male styles look bad, but it would really be the final nail in the coffin to me that they're not even trying and it's time to move on and play a different race.

New info from a recent interview.

Gamer Escape: Lots of players are excited for Male Viera. Some however are still wondering about the newer races’ (Viera and Hrothgar) lack of hairstyles, lack of visible head equipment, and, in the case of Hrothgar, needing a fantasia to change their existing hair styles. Are there any plans to level the playing field for Viera and Hrothgar players by making adjustments to those issues?

Naoki Yoshida: For both the Viera and Hrothgar, there were certain characteristics we wanted to emphasize in their design—the long ears of the Viera and beast-like features of the Hrothgar. Due to this, there was a limit to the range of customization, and we worked with these conditions when creating these races. If we wanted to make these features more customizable, we’d have to sacrifice those unique features, so it would be great if everyone could understand that at a fundamental level, it is not simply a matter of whether or not we make adjustments to accommodate this.

I have mentioned this on several occasions, but I understand why players request this—I really do. In an effort to accommodate this, even if just a little bit, we have continued to spend a lot of time assessing possible changes in structural design of the models, as well as potential additions to our current workflow. Even as I write this, I just met with the team to get an update on their testing status for this. We may not be able to get them to be exactly the same as the other playable races, but I hope to be able to give you some kind of update soon, including the status on the stubble for Hyur as you asked about previously, so your patience on the matter is greatly appreciated!

Kind of a confusing answer though, it sounds like he always hones in on the headgear issue rather than hairstyles. Otherwise I don't see what the length of Viera ears has to do with anything?

I will say though I'm very surprised to see they're actually already testing changes in the structural design of the races, honestly didn't expect them to even consider doing that. That means there's some hope left alive for Hrothgar's Fantasia issue being solved as well.

He mentions how often it's requested. So that's fun. I like that they mentioned hyur stubble as well. I do hope we see a hair update sooner than later, and I also don't want to just see male viera hair ported over either.

Feminine hair? Masculine hair? It's all just hair to me.

Anyway, i'd totally settle for the female ponytail for males considering how omnipresent those ludicrously massive collars are on clothing. Of course, the hair itself would probably clip into you character, but it is what it is. just gotta take what you can get i suppose.
