It's beyond me how people are still defending this system. Just because it was always like this does not mean that there are not better or more fair systems.
If you're standing in the same spot for 24 hours you're doing it wrong. Just going to be honest about that. You're doing nothing more than wasting your own time by being there when the odds of the plot popping are low (usually the first 8 hours of it being up). Want to know when plots went up? Join one of the many housing discords that keep track of these things.

Also yeah, people will most likely relocate into Shiro, LB and Mist. That's just because of how popular they are. Start in Goblet and move out. I know most people don't like Goblet but that's literally the point.

I will defend this system because it's 100x better than a lottery that can just be flooded with bots or giving people a weighted advantage against others which STILL makes it unfair. Whoever came up with this idea did it strictly with themselves in mind.

So how would lottery work exactly? Highest bidder gets it? Let's think about this, who has more gil than any other player in game. Oh wait, the RMT! Let them out bid everyone and we're back in the same boat as why the rng timers are their in the first place.

The thread basically puts it as: whoever has been waiting the longest for housing in general (i.e. across their entire FF history of camping) will get a higher chance of getting the plot.

This is a waitlist. It's not a raffle.

Sure but how does blaming those people fix the problem? May as well threaten to hold your breath until the Tragedy of the Commons is no longer a problem. Spoiler alert: Anoxia is a fantastic way to get a headache. Arguably the threat of losing one's account should be enough of a deterrent but clearly that's ineffective.

This is not a new problem. People have been subverting "the rules" for as long as there's been rules to violate. Square does not have the luxury of claiming ignorance. The only effective measures that prevent people from breaking the rules is to make it impossible to break them.

If they don't want people to resell XIV housing for RL currency then they have to make housing (apartments don't cut it) accessible to anybody that wants it. It doesn't stop there. If their solution requires millions of gil, they'll play right into the gil sellers' hands.

And bots could just as easily be in that line, by the hundreds, ahead of everybody else.... not solved.

This will be the last post I respond to on this thread. I have both a private and an FC house. Camping helped me get my private in under two weeks time, where someone here said they spent over a year randomly clicking periodically. As I've stated multiple times, it is the dominant strategy emergent from the devs' design.

Both systems can be equally flooded with bots and are arguably both "weighted" the same. The solution I've suggested saves player time, not bot time, not just my time, but the entire player base's time. And the suggested solution would have the unintended consequence of encouraging more players to participate in the mechanic [which is a good thing, in spite of what selfish people might add]).

Also, if you believe the housing market is flooded with bots or a bot army, you must not be participating.

All, I'm done responding to this post. I will concede that the community is just as responsible as the devs for this issue, although the devs initially created this issue and it is their responsibility to fix it.

I say this not because you disagree with me or my solution, but because you choose to defend the current mechanic and discourage innovation. Many of you openly admit that you don't want the system to improve solely because you believe it would lower your chances of participating. Until that changes, and the devs are held accountable, the system will not improve. A cynical mind would say they are well aware of this, which is why nothing will change.

Most of you don't read the initial post or any of my comments before you respond to the word "lottery."

So I'll leave it to you. My idea, that would save countless player hours, is out in the void. Good day.

    heh.

When I won my first home, there were 3 autoclickers who didn't leave straight away. I went to bed. I came back 8 hours later and 2 were still clicking away at my placard. During the month or so before hand, there were easily 2 or 3 autoclickers at most sales.

That's why your idea is unworkable. To win a house, arrive at the placard, set your mouse/keyboard macro software running, go to sleep. Do that for a week and you are at the top of the weighted list, without spending more than a minute in the game.

Wildstar or Swords of Legends show it is possible to make evolutive extensible housing for everyone. A random lottery is already an old idea considering what the current state of art can offer.

Worst : Wildstar or Swords of Legends system (were/)are more lively while they use(/d) instancied system since it is possible to create our own ward system. More limited that's right, but built with selected neighbors.

I completely agree that SOMETHING needs to be done. I certainly have other suggestions I've submitted, but I wouldn't be opposed to the "lottery" system. But I think it has to be just a straight lottery, and not benefit or penalize players for different criteria. As someone who has a house, I still want the ability to move to a BETTER house should one come up, and if I win, that just means a new lottery opens up.

I definitely hope they consider making improvements before Ishgard's housing opens up, though. Because that is going to be CHAOS!!!
