None of it is nearly as uninteresting as this raid series was, honestly. This was a black mark on an otherwise stellar record.
Heck, same. I'd only ever heard of Nier from some friends and all said positive things about it. But these raids, whether it was a good representation of it or not, has turned me away from ever wanting to play any of these games almost to the point of actually despising them.
You're missing out. The problem with this raid storyline was that Yoko Taro can't do any of the things that actually make his games interesting in an MMO.Heck, same. Subverting expectations for the sake of doing so isn't profound, it's simply bad writing trying to masquerade as something thought provoking. If Endwalker concludes with Zenos killing our character or suddenly becoming a good guy as Fandaniel is the real threat! It would certainly subvert expectations. It would also be rightly cited as absolute garbage writing.
Likewise. As someone who was always intrigued by Nier but never actually played through the series save a little of Drakengard, this three part advertisement (because that's what it was) completely turned me off.

"Stand in the ashes of a trillion dead souls and ask the ghosts if honor matters."
"The silence is your answer."

By the Twelve, that's an Olympic level stretch.

Honestly, if it was an add, then mission accomplished.
Around this time in the last expansion I was out of stuff to do and saw in live letters that Nier was the base for the raid series.
I had heard some things about it, and by chance it was on sale (I think; it could have just been I had leftover gift cards or something) that particular week so I bought it. Again, mission accomplished by SE.
Having played Automata, I highly recommend the game overall. The raid series though just doesn’t do it justice.
The raid strikes me very much like going to Mario land in Universal studios or the Starwars area at Disney: Even if you don’t know a thing about them, you will surely find something you like, or a ride that’s a lot of fun...but at the end there will be a lot of head scratching wondering what the fuss is all about. And you are absolutely going to roll eyes at the nerds geeking out over the merchandise.
All that said, now that I’ve played the raids...and now that I’m in a similar “looking for something else to play til next expansion”, I don’t know if I’d want to purchase automata. I recommend it as a good game, but I just don’t think it would feel as fresh as it did to me when I played pre shadowbringers.
Indeed I could play replicant, but I want something different...so...I dunno..might try Rust or subnautica below zero.

This is like trying to find deep introspective meaning of a porn, when in actuality it's really "It's just porn, man!"
glad I didnt miss anything by skipping all cs x)

Remember when we were discussing that the Nier cultist would find a way to explain that ending?
How they would praise Yoko Taro for being a genius and outsmarting everyone?
I'll give you a reasonable explanation:
Yoko Taro was fed up with the limitations and the MMO aspect so he forced in a second rate scenario just to be done.

I dont see the fuss, I enjoyed Nier immensely. Loved it. I will be getting Replicant when the price (grrrrrrr ) drops..almost $100 AUD = OUCH.
It was new and interesting, the byplay and background on Anogg and Konogg was fun, the ending very, to me, serene. They are where they need to be, and they are together. It was a peaceful and happy end, fitting given all they had been through. So it was a load of fun.
