What did he say about it? I must have missed it. If we got something like onmyoji/shikigami/taoist, that'd be so awesome. Give me all the yokai. I need a fox spirit lol
I wouldn't count Black Mage as a -DARK- class like Dark knight. Blackmage is more of the middle NUKE class. All they want to do is blow stuff up.
It'd be a decent compromise on a caster version of Necromancer, IMO. I was either hoping for that or time mage to use darkness as its dominant energy in attacks (or light/dark duality), providing BLM sticks strictly (more or less) to its current elemental trio with a peppering of spells that could dubiously be termed dark-powered.An Exorcist would be a wonderful new job. I could see it applying Senjafuda to enemies and doing damage that is based on exorcising them. Perhaps when an enemy dies to an Exorcist, they gain a unique death animation. After the body falls to the ground, it disappears into dust instead of just fading out the normal way.
It's from here:
So naturally, we were curious if any other jobs were in the running, and could have possibly bumped one of the two jobs fans are getting in Stormblood out. Yoshida was a little hesitant, not wanting to fuel speculation, but was able to elaborate on some loose ideas that the team had for another job.
“We were thinking of a ranged caster as well” said Yoshida. Apparently the idea was for a very Japanese type of Shaman, Magician, Conjurer-like ranged attacker. There wasn’t a direct English word that perfectly described the idea that Yoshida was trying to describe.
However, when I chimed in and suggested something like the Oracle from Final Fantasy Tactics, Yoshida responded with an emphatic “Yes!” So take that for what it’s worth.
When the game's story becomes self-aware:
Whoaaa that's awesome, I hope a class like that is addedIt's from here:
Honestly, I just want a proper Druid inspired job, as high level White Mage is uses almost entirely light element magic, and Geomancer has been coopted by Astrologian. The WHM job filled that niche well for most of the game’s lifespan, but current WHM is more in line with the legacy of the class in FF as a series, so I don’t want it to change, either.
I have no pickiness on role, but some kind of forest witch/wizard type job that has a heavy gameplay push towards poisons could fill both the desire for more “dark” while also giving us back that broader fantasy trope.
Yoshi usually holds stuff very close to his chest, and in Q&A's frequently says stuff like "I don't wanna say more in case we use those ideas in the future."
Since they told us about Oracle, I wonder if that means there's little hope we'll see it.
Let's leave it at Reaper and Dark Knight please. I don't want too many dark jobs. There are so many more final fantasy jobs left to add.
It was mentioned already a few times, but also wanted to bring it up for other reasons, I had in the past made a dark healer job idea: Here.
The main themes being Blood, Mind Flayer, Eldritch, and Necro (but not like raising the dead, think the 'other' parts of the concept like in a Diablo (blizzard) game (not raising the dead)).
The theme I thought could easily work well for either healer or damage dealer, the thread was made in the vision of healer mainly because at the time I saw a lot of threads about healers being a bit upset with the loss of their damage / other non-healing actions meanwhile many healers in many types of content could simply oGCD heal and felt a bit bored. So I had made an offensive, ish, focused healer. Coming up with ideas like offensive cures (prevents damage by targeting a specific monster, would need careful balance but would allow you to effectively shield 'heal' while being offensive in nature), or mixing attacks as healers which would allow smoother transitioning / tab targeting of certain frequent repeat actions (flay for example could be used as an offensive spell that combo'd into dominate, but also could be used on allies, the difference being you had this weapon (bell or lantern on a chain with a scythe like implement on the other side of the chain, against allies you'd swing the bell / lantern towards the allies and to enemies you'd swing the razer side, also sometimes you'd whip the lantern at enemies during curse attacks). There were a lot of other ideas to try and make it a bit more aggressive, like RoA (regen on action rather than on tick), curses, etc.
I felt all of that could flow into a DD job as well of course. I note that specifically because you might get more value out of a dark job that's not 'more void', when making the next job, if it happens to be DD (a void healer would be still unique for that role group but like "another void mage" might not feel as much so, not saying it can't happen however, I'm sure many can come up with cool ideas that could sit alongside Reaper). But if this other dark job did use blood / eldritch like magic it could set it apart. Give it the ravens, curses, the unknown unholy like magic that's outside of comprehension - which allows the animations and the magical effects to not look like 'another dark knight' (different motifs, and color potentials).
I had also made a thread on a dark theme'd transformation job, Here.
However, I'm suspecting some elements of desires are consumed by the existence of the reaper, some of which I'll be very pleased for, and some of which (the idea of many different forms to transform into, might be lost at least in a 'dark' theme). I still think a transformation focused job could fit very well though, just changed the theme from dark now to like Primal, nature, or even holy concept. I do really hope the reaper does have an 'evolution' of their current reaper form which causes them to appear far more void-sent like. Currently they get a bit of a Bleach like mode, which is neat, but it would be, imo, cool to be able to appear like Diabolos or Dante in his full Devil Trigger mode (I would very much like that). Or even if not winged demon if it was like the omega wraith (like the new reaper/wraith warframe.. in warframe lol). I mean, personally, I'd still absolutely love to play a Harmonixer Devil May Cry Devil Trigger job, but I'm fairly certain Reaper is taking some of those desires lol. The dark vibes might be well done but maybe sometime in the future I might convert the dark theme'd job request into primal or holy(because I still like the idea of a job that actively transforms into things that it is not, so like beasts, demons, angles, primals, whatever).
May suggest that dark jobs don't have to use dark colors either, I remember Blue Mage from FFXI having a dark vibe (some inspiration for the dark healer thread above) in such that you in essence had to shatter your soul to become one. Anti-Hero may take advantage of a situation that isn't simply dark colors or a magic that is stereotypically naughty. May for example have an extension of the light bringer shattering issue turn into a job, not really using voidsent but a job that sits at the very edge of insanity for the purpose of exorcism (or what have you). A holy 'demon hunter'. Maybe a job that made a deal with the elementals, and is like a Golbez Geomancer (I had suggested Geomancer become Geoknight to add an extra level of 'new'ness to the job while keeping a lot of loved concepts, with Golbez and Sauron inspirations for the 'bulky mage warrior').

So i did some thinking, and i got few thoughts,
A real pirate job (not rlly evil but ya) using twin pistols or a scimtar with off hand pistol..
Second, id like a duel wielding berserker (twin axes)
Maybe even an assassin using claw combat.
I think there's room for more, personally.
The development team itself has also expressed a desire to pursue their own spin on new jobs rather than rely upon only adding existing jobs from the franchise. That's how we got Gunbreaker, Sage and Reaper.
Granted, there's similarities to be found even then but I'm fond of that approach. One could argue it's also why DNC is a physical ranged DPS in FFXIV.
