I find it funny that so many people in this thread are vehemently denying that the dev team for FFXIV are fans of Bloodborne and incorporating elements from it directly into FFXIV. Look at the Shadowkeeper boss fight. Now go look at Ludwig the Holy Blade. Literally taking huge inspiration for monster design, too. Not just gearsets.

As for what inspired Hidetaka Miyazaki for Bloodborne's outfits, take a gander at this French movie from 2001:

Like yeah, Bloodborne took from old styles and what not, but I mean it's like RyuDragnier is saying. There are too many references too quickly for it to just be coincidental.

The striking set for Cryptlurkers is literally Marvelous Chester's set with an altered mask and hat.

The fending set is an altered variant of the Faraam armor set.

The DRG set is an altered variant of the Yar'har Ghul Hunter set, as are the mage hoods that use that mask.

Now how about that Reaper outfit?

It's the Old Hunter set from Bloodborne, almost to a T.

Stop denying it. It's ok for the FFXIV dev team to make these references. It just shows that they have good taste.

I just want a TRUE necromancer job. This job feels like a completely new job we haven't had before, which is fine, but its opening the door for more dark jobs than just Dark Knight, and Black Mage.

There's too much coincidence for it to not be intentional.
Cryptlurker is just generic dark fantasy. Or are we now pretending that darks souls invented that like y'all are pretending Bloodborne invented tricorn hats and trench coats?

That is exactly what they are doing.

Again, they are the most popular things currently in culture that use this stuff. We aren't pretending they invented it, but they have become popular recently thanks to the series, and the gear is near identical to sets of armor that are in the series.

This will be my final response to you before I put you on ignore since the fact that you can't accept that it's a possible reference tells me that you're trying to argue for the sake of arguing, and are not worth talking to.

Look now we ain't gonna pretend that the Cryptlurker fending armor doesn't look like a mixture of the Alva and Faraam armor sets, or that the casting/healing sets don't look similar to the sorcerer's starting gear in Dark Souls 3.

We're also not gonna pretend that Bloodborne popularized the whole "dark gothic fantasy" aesthetic in video games when games like Castlevania, Legacy of Kain, Baldur's Gate and others existed long beforehand.

I'm not sure you know what the word identical means

Also just because something is popular doesn't mean anything with any similarities to it are refencing it. As has been stated this style has been around and popular since way before Bllodborne and will continue to get used in many things because it is and always had been popular. That doesn't make everything that uses the style a Bloodborne reference.

I'm not not just trying to argue for the sack of it, I am just trying to get you to understand that things can be similar without one thing being a reference to the other when both are using styles that long predate both

Can we stop arguing over whose more useful, the pot or the kettle? Their both useful just as both theories on the inspiration are just that. Theories, unless the team comes out and says 'This inspired this' its a theory all the same.

This thread was for the suggestion of a whip wielding Exorcist Job not arguments about the inspiration for Reaper. EXORCIST not Reaper.

Soge01: That would be awesome! Though since we already have two job classes that use staves, maybe utlitising the old wands both White and Black Mage used to have would be better? As for the design, maybe Mhachi caster/healer gear could work. Like, maybe your Exorcist could have been originally founded in Mhach in order have someone that primarily helps bind and seal voidsent, along with exorcising them from any civilians they possess.
It's possible though for the class to work wouldn't we need an original tool? I agree staves have been used in abundance. But I can't really think of what else an exorcist might use. Hmmm maybe a hammer like the War Hammer's Templar's used. Come to think of it Templar Knights were said to be akin to protectors for priests and might have learned how to exorcise spirits and voidsent from those possessed by them. The only problem there is Templar's were known to be holy crusaders of the church, hardly what one might call an 'Edgelord'...

If an exorcist class were to exist, I'd imagine it would take some cues from Yuna in X, and the Hingashi Geomancers. Maybe it would incorporate the dances Yuna did when she sent spirits back to the Farplane.
