    Sacred Soil description?

what is this "suffer only 90% damage" stuff? cant we make it "reduce damage taken by 10%" like every other damage reduction skills in game?

passage of arms too but i suppose that one is special because the PLD itself has different buffs to the rest of the team

but afaik, sch dont get any special benefit from their own sacred soil that others dont get

Disclaimer: I have no idea how the math works, but the meaning could be a difference in math.

    Possibly:

assume 2 abilities that each reduce damage by 10%, for a total of 20%.

Or, you suffer 90% damage, which is then reduced by 10% for a total of 19%.

Or alternatively to make it stack with other mitigation tools.

Someone has asked me this before in game as well and I figured it was so all the healer bubbles can stack. Don't they all have slightly different effects?

It's a recent development. Passage of Arms was altered to be the same. An attempt to make the tooltip more clear, as they used to read how you want them to read. Don't know why they changed it. Maybe to make it sound more impressive by mentioning a larger number.

Also Kaynide, as far as damage calcs go, it's the latter way you describe for everything as far as I am aware. Starting with the highest mit, they have diminishing returns on down the line. Such that you can't actually achieve 100% mitigation, making HP shields required to reduce damage to zero.

Like I remember back in Stormblood on DRK vs. Exdeath Savage, I could nullify Thunder III x2 without an immunity by stacking everything and kitchen sink with Blackest Night used as the first thunder hit. After everything, DA + Dark Mind, Shadow Wall, Rampart, Reprisal, and Addle, I only had something like +87.2% mitigation, rather than 100%.

This is not due to reducing stacked effects but due to multiplicity of effects. It won't matter what order you apply the buff multipliers because multiplication is commutative. This means that A x B x C is the same as C x B x A.

In your particular example (using historical 2018 values),

    Code:
                 % reduced as a multiplier
    Dark Arts 30 0.7
    Shadow Wall 30 0.7
    Rampart 20 0.8
    Reprisal 10 0.9
    Addle 10 0.9

                    Product: 0.31752
That is, even though the percentages add up to 100%, you would still take about 32% damage while all those effects are active.

Yeah, so it's never additive, right? Also I forgot grit, so I guess it'd be 0.254016. Not sure what math I was doing back then. Even with Apoc it's right around still taking 20%

    @Vyrerus/Rongway:

I kind of figured that was how it was (multiplicative rather than additive).

Still though, maybe there is a better way to explain that, or maybe it just be in the help area; a page on damage mitigation or some such. (and maybe there is, I just haven't really delved)
