Thing is, there's a scale, it could be adjusted if they really wanted to in like 5 minutes tops. They've likely already landed on a height for the race, and trying to composite images had heights varrying pretty dramatically.... so it's more likely we just have to see where they landed. I also hope they're on the taller side, but no amount of petitioning is going to get them to redo all the work already done to make them taller if they are closer to the hyur/miquote height.
Personally I'm fine as long as some of them get the option to be taller than some fem viera.
They can only adjust so much, though. The thing with the height slider is it doesn't just change how tall you are, but actually shrinks and expands your entire character model (so thickness, hand sizes, etc) and that can only go so far before they have to remodel all the clothing and everything to fit the new larger or smaller size. I doubt that the viera men are going to be the exception to the creator on every other race and sex to get dramatically varying height options just because of the amount of work it would take on the dev side to support that. They likely will have a similar range of heights as other available options.
I'm closer to your perception, though, in that I would like to see the size options for male and female be identical. The females are a nice height generally speaking, and if they want to do a nice nod to the lore that at least a certain ages, it's difficult to distinguish the sexes, making them grow to the same height would just be another nice nod to how similar they are.
Well granted going too extreme would look weird, but most races have an around average 15cm diff between min and max already, so say 20 wouldn't be pushing it even as much as femroe. They can only adjust so much, though. signed, as someone who REALLY wishes the au ra females were as tall as the males, I know how frustrating it would be to some
This picture shows what I've been meaning. The below image is of my boyfriend and I. He is a max height miqo and I'm a min height viera. As you can see the height difference between us is quite small.
I think it's safe to say that some male viera will be able to be taller than at least some female viera because I don't imagine SE would give male viera a height range that matches male miqos because frankly they would just end up looking like a different type of miqo instead of something more distinct.
I don't know if male viera would be able to be as tall as a max height female but I figured I would show this image to give an idea as to what might happen with their height range.
Personally I would like if the males cannot be as tall as max height females. I know that among mammals in our animal kingdom it is rare for the females to be larger...but it does happen, and there's no reason why viera can't be an outlier in FFXIV's world. It would also make sense given viera have a matriarchal society. But if it turns out the males can be taller I won't lose sleep over it. I'm just so glad they're even coming to the game.
Just like the females, the male Viera will be tall, but not extremely tall.
Here's another picture that shows a minimum height female Viera standing next to a maximum height Miqo'te and Au Ra. As you can see, the difference isn't drastic.
I'm expecting the same to be true for male Viera. The difference between a minimum height male Viera and a maximum height Midlander or Miqo'te won't be as dramatic as some may think.
People who want male Viera to be short don't really need to ask for it.
I don't think many people realize that, even if male Viera turn out to be taller than the females (like most of the races), they can still be pretty short if you set them to minimum height.
The way I'm predicting it, male Viera height will be between male Highlander and male Elezen (just like how female Viera are between female Highlander and female Elezen).
This would land them in the middle, making them average height for males. Meaning if you made one minimum height, he'd end up being pretty short. A minimum height male Viera would be guaranteed to be shorter than any Roegadyn (male or female), any male Au Ra, any male Hrothgar, any male Elezen, and shorter than most male Highlanders and female Elezen (and most likely female Hrothgar too). You'll probably match height with tall female Highlanders and be a bit shorter than tall female Viera.
The thing is, they won't feel as short because a huge chunk of the playerbase (about half actually) plays either female Miqo'te, female Au Ra, male Miqo'te, or male Midlander (4 of the shortest races after Lalafell).
That's why a lot of people think that even a minimum height female Viera is very tall, but that's not the case.
If you run a roulette and you end up in a party with mostly catgirls, lizard girls, and catboys, you're often going to be one of the tallest, if not the tallest character in the group. And it's not because your character is so tall, but moreso because the most commonly played characters are short. It doesn't help that the tallest races (Hrothgar, Roegadyn, Elezen, etc) are a much rarer sight.
Overall, male Viera will provide a nice balance for male character options. He'll be capable of being pretty tall and short, but not-too-short.
If you think about the max-minx height we have with the current races you make a good point.
But some (if not many) players go for miqo or highlander for the height range. If you don't want your character to get past 180cm (witch is to me a good middle ground) you don't have mutch choice (2 races if you don't want to smell the dirt). Male miqo at max height are already not that common (on chaos tho). Making male viera shorter than highlanders (so basicaly almost the same as female viera) will make ppl who play shorter race switch easier and maybe keep it. At the same time, players who like it tall won't feel that small thanks to all the miqo, female aura etc...
Female viera already feel fairly tall if you take max height tbh (191cm so taller than min male highlander), and you can see bunnys ears easly as well.

Yes, but as much as you argue that people who want short males don't have much of a choice (Lalafel, Hyur, Miqo'te), those of us who want a tall choice don't have much of a choice either (Orch shaped Roegadyn, hourglass lizard with horns and tails, an animal race called Hrothgar, and giraffe with small head Elezen). Elezen is like the only tall human those of us who want a tall human option have.If you think about the max-minx height we have with the current races you make a good point.

At least you have Hyur and Miqo'te for a serious fairly human looking option, Highlander as a bonus (you could say that's 3).
That's why I suggest to the devs to make Male Viera the middle ground with a femroe-like height slider, it would finally provide that tall option that isn't cartoony and gives short players another option.
I mean really this is what tall players have to deal this

Wait.... you classify Lalafell as normal!?!?Yes, but as much as you argue that people who want short males don't have much of a choice (Lalafel, Hyur, Miqo'te), those of us who want a tall choice don't have much of a choice either (Orch shaped Roegadyn, hourglass lizard with horns and tails, an animal race called Hrothgar, and giraffe with small head Elezen). I think people don't realize just how tall hyur are, like, max height fem au ra is a pretty average human lady height. Also what is this obsession with needing to be taller than fem viera that I keep seeing? I demand my height slider cap increased if they are.
