However, like many things in Endwalker I do believe they're just referencing things from FFIV directly and have no link to current moogles, but hey, who knows?
Actually, Hummingways were always rabbit-like, even in their sprites. So it may be a case of one thing influencing another and then said thing reinfluences its origin. Hummingways were the inspiration for Ivalician moogles, but during the redesign the mooglrs influenced the Hummingways.

I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.

Minions are not 100% canon. Sometimes you have to decouple lore from merchandising strategies.

Likely there as an inside joke, like how the text for the Fafnir minion mentions the makers questioning why it was holding such a rare blade, only for the creator to mutter something about drop rates. Which is a clear reference to farming Fafnir in FFXI for the rare weapons he drops.

Also, "rabbit on/in the moon" is a very common Japanese thing in fiction and media, and the Hummingways (as well as their prodigal representative Namingway) being rabbits made perfect sense as a reference to that.

I have no interest in Ivalice stuff, so I don't know if Ivalician Moogles have the same shared inspiration.

They definitely resemble Ivalice moogles but I think that's just a coincidence due to both being tiny humanoid rabbits.
With Hummingways on the other hand they're basically 1:1 to the Hummingway concept art and they're on the moon just like Hummingways.

Yes you make good points. But I think I will have my head cannon be some time ago some Eorzeaon doll maker saying "That rabbit came from the moon!"

I assume they were created by the same Amaurotines who fashioned the structures on the moon to possibly to serve as helpers in the absence of fellow Ancients.

The thing I'm more curious about is that prior lore suggested the moon was created specifically when Zodiark was imprisoned, which would mean that either:

    1. The buildings and the Loppurets were made just before the Sundering happened and that the moon was fashioned before Zodiark got shoved into it, which would suggest there's some deeper conspiracy surrounding the Sundering.

    2. The moon had always existed and some ambitious Amaurotines decided to establish a colony up there for whatever reason.

    3. The buildings were actually made post-sundering by the unsundered Ascians for some unknown purpose.
