Does make me wonder to be honest. When ffxii was being made, did they look to the hummingways as inspiration for the ivalice moogles? They look exactly like the Hummingways from Final fantasy IV DS?

Ivalice Moogles originally came from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, XII Moogles are mostly an evolution from there.
When FFIV DS was made Hummingways were redesigned to look more like rabbits (This game came after TA and XII) so maybe it's the other way around and Ivalice Moogles influenced their redesign.
However, like many things in Endwalker I do believe they're just referencing things from FFIV directly and have no link to current moogles, but hey, who knows?

Actually, Hummingways were always rabbit-like, even in their sprites. So it may be a case of one thing influencing another and then said thing reinfluences its origin. I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
So in lore some people in Eorzea must have some idea of there existence, for this t have been made.

Yes you make good points. But I think I will have my head cannon be some time ago some Eorzeaon doll maker saying "That rabbit came from the moon!"Likely there as an inside joke, like how the text for the Fafnir minion mentions the makers questioning why it was holding such a rare blade, only for the creator to mutter something about drop rates. Which is a clear reference to farming Fafnir in FFXI for the rare weapons he drops.

The text in french localization seems more detailed. ( i dunno how to add a screenshot ><)
here the translation, it may be confusing, i'm not confident in my english XD
"According to some, he is a survivor of the people of the moon. What is certain is that he cannot give nicknames to everyone he meets on his way. He never goes out without his book in he records all these new names."
This one may be canon, i guess?

For what it's worth, the description of the minion itself in the minion guide:
Not completely wrong, but it is worth saying that the Namingway minion (at least, last anyone checked; I'm not online right now so I can't see if they updated it) implies he was the actual guy, rather than a wind-up minion. But other than that, the description actually mostly lines up if you read that we're looking at a few-degrees-removed, lost-through-retelling version of what happened. While it is whispered that this cheerful vagrant is the sole surviving member of a tribe hailing from none other than the moon, most see Namingway for who he is─a queer fellow with a penchant for giving all he meets absurd nicknames then jotting them down in his mysterious journal.
