And while we are at it, why the heck is the actual colour only displayed in that tiny circle? On console I can barely see it.That's a separate problem with a far easier solution: consolidate each color family into a single dye item that can be any of the shades from that family, except for the premium dyes which could be consolidated into two or three items, maybe Bold Dye (pure white, jet black, dark green, etc), Pastel Dye, and Metallic Dye. Then the entire gear color pallet would take up just 10 slots.
OP makes many valid points here. You're only exaggerating their statements.

I dont disagree with the glam closet needing an expansion or something, but if you look at the OP's post history, there seems to be nothing they like. period.
FF isnt perfect by a long shot, but if someone constantly complains about the game and its systems, why are they playing?
despite valid points, how can you determine if its not just a troll topic designed to inflame opinion?

Yeah as someone who's a massave xmog addict in WoW, the limitations here are absolutely abhorrentTo be honest with you guys I cannot believe that this current glamour system even exist in an MMO in 2021. It makes no sense how out dated this thing is.
It completely discourages people from farming content to get new glamours once they are capped on space and the display it uses is SOOOOOOOO OUTDATED for showing what you got.
I seriously want to see an FF dev put this glamour system up against WoW's transmog UI and justify why this still exist? I do not care how you do it but this system needs to go and be updated. Also do not tell me that is WoW and this is FF14 because these 2 MMO's devs have been hijacking content from each other going on years now.
. It is insane that when you acquire a piece of gear the appearance is not automatically just added to a closet.
. It is insane the convalutued process you have to go through to use a crystal to add a piece to a closet. Maybe 7 years ago there was some kind of market but this is just a pointless hassle.
. YOU HAVE 3 EXPANSIONS WORTH OF GEAR and christ knows how many classes. Why in gods name does a cap on the glamour closet even exist? Was this a F2P feature that you were going to sell more space on the Mogstation but then the game went back to subscription and you forgot?
. Why is there not a thing that shows me glamours I have not collected? Do you understand transmog collecting in WoW is literal end game for players over there that people spend MONTHS doing.
Please please just update this outdated system. I cannot be the only one that finds this aspect of FF14 to be outdated and inconvenient.
FFXIV - 1.0 classic servers (before the meteor) should happen. I think I want it, and I do.

Eh personally I'd rather have FFXIV's system over WoW's for the simple fact that we have access to dye. Despite having several times the amount of glam gear in WoW I had trouble making outfits due to constantly clashing colours. I found it extremely frustrating because having that huge amount of gear was pretty meaningless when I ended up using the same handful of pieces all the time.
Many are shocked that FFXIV doesn't have a glam system like WoW's, well I'm shocked that WoW still doesn't have something as basic as dye. Not even for new pieces. You just have to hope that recoloured variations will align to your tastes, and match the pieces you're hoping to pair them with.
I do agree the storage system is far better in WoW there is no disputing that...but the act of making an outfit, in my opinion, is not better.
I think it's safe to say that spaghetti code is why the storage system isn't better. SE often cite server limitations behind the reasons for not introducing features and well 2.0 was built in a huge rush on the foundations of an extremely flawed game. I would not be surprised if a lot of old code is still lurking in the game. Honestly I expect it given what I know about software development from those I know who work in that field.
If SE could at least group recoloured pieces of the same gear models together as one piece so they only take up one slot that would go a long way to making the use of storage space more efficient. At least in my case anyway. I have a lot of recoloured variants because they dye differently.
It also would be nice if we could store dye in the glamour dresser. It's tiresome to have it take up so much storage on your character/retainers or travel a lot just to get the few bottles you need.

One thing I like about the FFXIV system is the glamour plates. It's great to have outfits you can switch between for free. I do wish there were more slots though.
I basically have to just store glamours for my tanks. Across all the different body parts and weapons it really adds up. I have no idea how anyone could use the glamour closet without running out of room for every class.

The worst thing about the glamour plates is that despite having glamour plates, glamours are still stamped onto gear pieces and then the individual gear pieces are what get displayed. If a gearset is tied to a glamour plate, the system should just use the glamour plate instead of the gearset for display purposes. That way your appearance wouldn't change when you swapped gear pieces. As a programmer I get why they programmed the dresser system to rely on the old glamour stamping system; but it's still a bad implementation.

My personal wants:I'd really like to have a "glamour log" of sorts where you can just open up a tab and have your appearances readily available. WoW has stumbled a lot in recent years, but when it comes to their current transmog system...it's hard to beat that. If the dev team wants to borrow a good idea from another MMO, that would be the one.
1. Glamour Log. (having presets a la glam plate still would be a plus)
2. Dye Box.
3. Tacklebox.
Dye box and Tacklebox would be special storage for dyes and bait, respectively. Probably key items? Separate storage interfaces a la chocobo saddlebag? Dyes and bait would go straight in/out of the dyebox/tacklebox when selling/buying to marketboard.

You might not wanna hold your breath on storage for a specific thing.2. Dye Box.
3. Tacklebox.

Yoshi P has repeatedly said we will never get this.
Their stance on it is: if we can add more inventory space, instead of making it space dedicated to something specific it's better to give the players general inventory space.
This is how and why we got the Chocobo Saddlebag.
More inventory space you can use however you want.
The devs really seem to struggle with giving us more inventory room (having to redistribute the armory chest slots from belts hints at how limited they are in just giving us more) so while it'd be nice to have a tackle box, and a backpack for your gathered mats, and dedicated storage for your crafted items, and so on... it's not gonna happen.
If they add space they add it in ways that doesn't restrict how players can use that space.
Which is good.
If they added a crafter backpack (or whatever they'd call it), you who wants dye storage and bait storage would be SOL. But if they added more inventory space in general it can go towards addressing all needs.
