I'm more curious to see the general theming of the job than the specific weapon, which I probably won't get hyped for unless they throw a curve ball like a chain sword or something. But I'm generally more interested in Sage than a new dps in general, but we'll see what we get next week.
This is literally why i am cautiously optimistic! Give us scythe melee dps then plays like <insert wonkiest job in game>I'm more curious to see the general theming of the job than the specific weapon, which I probably won't get hyped for unless they throw a curve ball like a chain sword or something. I’m heavily curious on what the job will be just because if the theories are correct and it is a scythe based job, i hope it’s darker themed to get rid of all the nay sayers saying we can’t have a darker themed job because yoshi p didn’t give us thief![]()
Same... I literally yelled when it was completely blocked from view without even a hint.
But yea my money's on a scythe user too. My friend mentioned that the make it rain hair being made available again was also a hint. Because Sice.

It's not really naysayers, that's just what he's said and up till now done, he could always change his mind like he did with BLU, kind of, but as per what we've been told now and their actions, any job that portrays the WoL as "evil" or not "good" is disallowed.
However, even with that, it's not like every job is a beacon of light, DRK's may be about meeting out justice, but it's their justice and they'll happily brake laws or people to do it, BLM also had a dark history and path, yet the whole WoL storyline with it is about proving the opposite for the job. So it's more likely whatever the new job ends up being will fall into the same boat, even if the job itself is darker themed, the WoL will get a lighter take or they'll be the ones to "redeem" it.
Seraph of the End has a scene in a room where lots of weapons are stuck to the ground. I wonder if it is a reference. There is a scythe using character in it too.
Not joking, I think about it at least several times a day. I MUST KNOW WHAT IT IS, DAMMIT!!!!!
The tshirt Yoshi-P wore with the foreign language on it translated to "I'll always be with you" or some such. And coupled with death on the shirt, I keep theorizing over.and over again that the new class may be:
1. Ran'jit's scythe transformation due to him being closely connected to death via all the reincarnations of Minfillias he's trained and lost over his lifetime and always finding the next one to take her place.
2. Gaius' Garlean Gunblade style, becasue of everything that happened with him in the whole Weapon's Project side quest.
3. Gaia's hammer because of everything that happened woth her during the Eden side quests.
I'm counting down to see if I'm going to be excited or disappointed.
Some of what I want from the new melee job:
- No targeted support ability like Dragoon's Dragon Sight.
- No fast combo system like Ninja's Mudra.
- No casting ability like Samurai's Iaijutsu.
- No animation lock like on Dragoon (not too familiar if there is still any).
- Less reliance on positionals than Monk.
- No DoT to manage.
Back when I played GW2, I was a Necromancer Reaper main, with a lovely scythe and stash of adorable minions that looked like skinned rabbits. It wasn't an evil job, just looked that way, and there was some lore that said it was all okay, because necromancers are people too (or something. I actually don't remember the specifics, but the crux of it was, it wasn't evil, just thoroughly ooky-spooky).It's not really naysayers, that's just what he's said and up till now done, he could always change his mind like he did with BLU, kind of, but as per what we've been told now and their actions, any job that portrays the WoL as "evil" or not "good" is disallowed.

Death is a natural part of life. A grim reaper type is there simply to usher you on to whatever comes afterwards. It's not evil in itself, just death can be problematic to wrap the mortal mind around - people fear dying and so associate or latch an evil intent to it which, whilst understandable, doesn't mean death in itself is so, much less the nice reaper who comes to help you out with getting to the next bit. Besides, if I can chill with Grim in the Sims game series, then anything goes. But I agree with you: I think anything we might have skewing that way in FFXIV could be coded darkish - but really it'll just be another take on helping the misguided find their way. Or something. Perhaps with slightly less proactive scything*, more a bit of "shepherding of souls" which might fit our character better.
That, or Zenos has taken up Botany.
*Oh who am I kidding? If WoL is going to scythe opponents, it'll be ridiculously proactive.
