I hate how most of the new headgear lacks ear slots or pockets for miqo'tes. They've gotten very lazy this expansion. It's why I don't wear them and just glamour it to something older.

Here with my fingers crossed we'll get a glam-up expansion that retextures the old gear. For real, I much prefer the style of a lot of the older pieces of gear. Those textures are just looking really ratty now.
There seems to be a drift to really high-detail textures on a lot of things this expansion, especially the endgame gear, and it just seems to display badly when you're zoomed out. They also dye in ways that won't play nicely with other sets.
I'd like them to edge back to the style of cleaner, sharper shapes to the design.
I honestly don't understand how they even went through the process of releasing a PS5 client with the texture resolution we have now. They gave the high res interface/icons, though, so there's hoping they'll extend it to the other character textures. There seems to be a drift to really high-detail textures on a lot of things this expansion, especially the endgame gear, and it just seems to display badly when you're zoomed out. It's still work, of course, but is not as complex as modelling. They just have to replace the texture files, which are flat images... And to that, I suppose they must own the "original" images? Being a 2D artist myself, I can hardly think about someone that would keep original files in such low sizes.
Heck, even the Pag'lthan (sp?) dungeon items, the copper details from the armor look so bad in the low res texture.
Honestly, I’m not really surprised. Square has been cutting a lot of corners for this game milking FFXIV for capital, obviously using the earnings to fund other projects. Even Blizzard does the same thing, I just wish they invested a bit more capital to improving my favorite game. But, I’m obviously biased.

Hahaha don't count on it. SQEX is notorious for losing their own material.
Hell, they've completely lost their master copies of Kingdom Hearts 1, basically every Final Fantasy game up to 10, as well as many of the spinoffs like Tactics, as well as many other titles that they've not admitted to yet.
This is also why they had to rerecord the soundtrack for the new Nier Replicant.
I don't know if they have or haven't lost old textures yet, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

I guess with that Avenger game having flopped so hard they must be pretty tight right now...
And right on the heels of FF15 losing them 33 million... (and didn't that cause them to file for bankruptcy?)
And then they lost a few billion (I've heard anywhere from 2-5) when they closed down Shinra Technologies in the UK.
And they lost about 12 billion in that earthquake some years back.
Their Tokyo RPG Factory studio was shut down after losing them hundreds of thousands (though I hear they've since reopened it?)
I guess it's all really starting to pile up.
And all this on top of their CEO having to step down in 2013 just because their games were so unprofitable. They lost about 16 billion from "slow sales."
As much as we may think FF14 deserves more... I don't know how much more SQEX is able to put into it lol.
SQEX has flirted with the rumors of being bought out a couples of times, and the company has almost completely gone under at least twice now. Sometimes it seems like their mobile games and MMOs are all that's keeping them afloat.

Are you speaking about the Cryptlurker and Bozja sets? They look fine to me, albeit dirty when I zoom out, but also when I zoom in. I'm not sure if it's just a PC thing, though. There seems to be a drift to really high-detail textures on a lot of things this expansion, especially the endgame gear, and it just seems to display badly when you're zoomed out. I really like the rich detail on the likes of the Cryptlurker set. Especially the fending set. I think it's some of the coolest armour in the game to date.
I think the pseudo 'dirty' and 'scratched' look works pretty nicely. It gives it a 'Dark Souls/Bloodborne' look, I suppose.
Whenever I fantasia to a Raen, though, I don't use helmets because a lot of headgear looks a bit odd with the horns.
To be fair, if you stop and analyze a lot of the tiny details in a lot of ARR content you will notice the trend of cutting back gradually more in each expansion. This is why despite the teeny tiny sizes I find ARR areas better designed than anything since Heavensward.
It sucks but the majority of the playerbase seems to either not notice or care so...
This isn't exclusive to SE though. Most japanese game companies didn't have the habit of preserving their games' sources until early 2000s. This is why to this day Sega can't do good emulation of their old games unless M2 is helping and the bollocks rumor of Nintendo "using a rom from the internets" was a thing.Hahaha don't count on it. Yup, that's why I also provided a more recent example (them losing Nier's entire soundtrack) to punctuate that, while this is an industry problem, SQEX is especially bad about it.This isn't exclusive to SE though.
