Just wondering how do you define griefing? I have messed with people that do not say hi in chat, or something. I say things like oh how rude, takes jabs at their character, if they die I might jokingly say something "say hi for raise" though it is mostly in good fun. Granted sometime I do not get a response so was wondering was this the stuff they were doing?

I'm pretty sure I shared this particular story before in the 'Tales from Duty Finder' thread, anyway for this: berating me for not greeting the party in chat, refusing to heal me (as tank) unless I do so - at the expense of a wipe. Aside from that, griefing in a more general sense would be things like: intentionally blinding party members with RDM LB3 during mechanics, Rescuing players to their deaths, provoking a boss who then cleaves the whole party, etc. All commonplace in this game.

If those are commonplace for you, then you must have rotten luck, because I rarely ever see any of those outside of people doing it to their friends, and even when I do, it's usually by accident or by people who didn't know any better, not people with the intention to grief others, especially for RDM LB3.

Sure, a lot of them are doing it to their friends, but the party gets affected because of it. It's disrespectful even in that case. I'm not saying it happens to me specifically ALL the time, but rather it happens in the game fairly commonly. I'd post my own stories in the TfDF thread more often if that was the case.

The opposite would be control and authoritarianism. Which do you think a videogame should be more?

As others have said, this is sort of endemic to an MMO so, to some extent, you do just have to put up with it. Of course, if someone is being a jackass then you absolutely should call them out on their behaviour. If someone is genuinely breaking the rules, then absolutely report them. Do what you can in the spaces you do have some control over. Just don't expect to get rid of it altogether.

I never heard of a mentor doing their job.
