Thing is most of the Raiding/"Toxic Elitist" community does a pretty good job of self policing. Whereas the RP community does not. Furthermore, it's not that I hate RP on principle, just 14 RP. Years ago when I was not as jaded I even almost participated in the RP scene. Had backstories written up for mine and a friend's character. However, when I actually saw what 14 RP tended to entail I felt nothing but revulsion. That has not changed.

I could stay that every RP scene tends to seem, on the surface, to go towards adult topics becuase that's what causes the most attention. There's still plenty of sfw stuff, and I know that the bigger groups try to keep things in line.

The RP community does police itself. Every RP group I'm a part of has rules for conduct and moderators to enforce them. The RP FC I run is the same, and I have had to moderate people. In most cases it tends to be drama or some kind of toxicity.

The problem is, the main RP community and these ERP venues are different communities. Heck, the people who run the FFXIV RP Calendar refuse venues that sell ERP, so there's some self policing there, especially as it's the main resource for advertising RP.

The main RP hubs I'm a part of have rules against NSFW content. The are some Discords that keep it to an NSFW channel. But I've yet to see ERP advertised at any of these places.

Anyway, take me for example. I run an RP FC, I run 2 weekly social events, I also run a weekly story/adventure RP night for my FC, I help run a monthly(ish) social event, I volunteer as a vendor or/and performer at events, I'm in multiple RP communities within the game and it has been rare for me to see sexual misconduct. What I have known about has generally been dealt with. Yes, there are people who will engage in ERP in the main RP community, but that's normally in private and with people they know and normally the product of two characters getting that close, rather than openly advertised or out in the open, which the GM's and devs have never highlighted as an issue, as the ERP issue is over advertisement and it being open and there being venues for it. So it's not like people will police something that the GM's aren't even moderating.

What I don't have is an involvement with any of these ERP venues, nor does my position within the RP community mean I have any influence over them. So what can I do to police them that's any different to what the next guy who doesn't RP can do? And what responsibility do I have over said next guy? I mean, I'd rather put my energy in supporting the communities that I am in rather than the ones I'm not in and catch wrongdoing as I see it, not seek it out (I'm not a GM).

The people who are in favor of allowing public 18+ activities can scream out anything you want as a reason for continuing to break the game's rules but it literally is irrelevant since you're still breaking the game's rules and if you get caught will be sent to gaol over it.

As far as I'm aware from my time on the forums and reading the posts from people who have been caught, they were all public cases. The OPs in those threads were blatantly advertising ERP services either in their post or in their carrd (like I said before, we can assume GMs are taking these as evidence now if posted by the people involved in the actual venue). Private ERP (as in, two or more (if you're spicy like that) consenting adults in their own room going to town) has not been targeted and personally I don't think they care (like Saefinn said in their previous post).

The massive issue is coming in when people are taking it public and advertising selling sex as a service and trying to make money off of it. That is a literal brothel setting and it's something that Yoshi has already stated PUBLICALLY that he is against and encourages people TO REPORT IT. (Source: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/392166)

To the OP of this thread: Instead of coming at the people who are reporting it (Some are malicious I will give you that and I don't encourage it at all if it's not for the right reasons), recognize that selling sex in a 13+ game is the problem and people who do have an issue with ERP in this game will report you about it. Going underground and hiding the truth behind a false PF ad or whatever else is used to advertise will still get you in trouble if someone decides to screencap your interactions. In fact it might even turn out worse since you're intentionally trying to hide it. An RP tab won't change the game's or Yoshi's stance on brothels.

ERP concerns aside, I think it would be useful to have a separate tab for RP. I'm motivated by selfishness: it can be annoying to have to sift through so many unrelated entries when I'm looking for a specific kind of party. Having a separate RP tab would reduce party finder clutter, and the people interested in it can still find what they're looking for.

All of this. I think people are getting caught up on the ERP - and then just thinking that's RP. From what I've been following I think ERP should be called what it is - cyber sex (and for sale at that). It really has nothing to do with RP. Maybe then people would stop associating it with SFW RP which there is a lot of and you're right - the cyber sex and the RP communities aren't the same thing.

Interesting to see the responses of the people in that thread. None really take it seriously or think it's an issue.. even going so far as saying 'wasted question' and saying 'I won't report it', yet now not even 2 years later it's an actual issue that people are being reported and thrown into the Gaol for if all the whining ERP advertisers are any indication.

This is just my opinion but compared to when I first joined FF to now (approx. 9-10 months) there have been a lot more 18+ ads in the PF, some using multiple people to spam the same ad over and over. I can't really speak for the landscape two years ago, but if it has been steadily increasing...I'm kind of not super shocked that some people started getting annoyed by it. Maybe back then no one really took it seriously because it wasn't to the point that it is at now with how popular opening these types of venues are?

Can't really say for sure unless someone who was around during that time weighs in.
