It doesn't matter what people use, as long as they are happy.

It does if you're convinced something is better simply due to marketing and not because it's actually better for you. Apple make some great stuff but it is often very over-priced. It's like buying designer clothes. Great quality but you're paying for the name.

Making it for iPad automatically makes it compatible with mac, so a native iPad app fixes the trashy mac app. (The current Mac App is using an emulated Windows x86, which is then further emulated to Mac OS x86-64 on Mac ARM, and STILL hits 60 fps, which means a native app would likely be exponentially better). So again, an iPad with a magic keyboard and an xbox controller make fantastic portable gaming machines for FFXIV, and they could even use Touch ID / Face ID to auto-login without using the authenticators.
Well you're not going to get a new Ipad Pro for $600 either. Honestly if you really want a mobile FFXIV, just get a MS Surface. People have already tested them with decent results. Not sure you'll want to do a full blown raid on them but crafting, fishing, gathering, etc.. should be easy enough.

iPad Pro with m1 is $799 so while you're right, this has WAY more gaming power than a surface pro. the iPad pro has more power for gaming than an ps3, and more than an xbox one (launch), and the Nintendo switch. Graphically its got some amazing games on it, and it has enough memory to support it. Again you have to look at it as a portable way to game. Tablet, with keyboard, plus xbox controller, = great portable FFXIV experience. The surface pros are using terrible graphics cards, with intel processors. So, its not a hardware issue at this point. The iPad of 2015 is not the iPad in discussion, its the iPad of 2021 which is sufficient for FFXIV. Case and point, its already on the mac using identical hardware.

If the Mac version is not a native Mac app, then would a mobile version of that app be available on the iPad? Does the iPad support the installation of non-native apps?

The surface has better compatibility being windows and x86. I know parallels released a update to create VM and run windows but that means the 8gb is gonna be to limited, and still arm.

I think the biggest obstacle would be the App Store updating process. Yeah, games can have their own set of downloads, but using Genshin Impact since you used it before, I still have to get some kind of update from the App Store.

It can take a few days to get through that process. I know some of the mobile games I play will update on Android days before they do on my iPhone/iPad because the Android store doesn't have so much checking.

And of course, you'd have to time it *just* right. If the update goes on the store too soon, then you can't play again until they launch the update. Too late, and people are waiting however long for Apple to process it.

Parallels didn't do the translation, Codeweavers did. There is no VM involved, just wine. FFXIV runs wonderfully on an 8GB Macbook Pro, but until Codeweavers do wine for the iPad, it can't happen.

You can be paying for the service too...and the idiot proofness, given Apples strictness they control a lot more of what the user sees and uses, which can make it good for people who don't know what they're doing. That said...I still think they over do it even then.

But I used to work in a call centre for one of Apple's competitors in one of their markets, our products were of course cheaper and still very well made, but ngl, the investment in customer service was not that great in comparison. But I take the argument that the money comes from somewhere, said company was great for RnD and product quality and value, but not service. A nerd like me would have no issue with the poor service because I can solve most of my problems myself or with Google, but disgruntled customers (I worked complaints) would often compare their experiences with Apple.

There was a part of me that'd want to say "yeah but you'd have paid a lot more through Apple for the same spec" but it's not really a customer service appropriate thing to say... especially if you're trying to resolve a complaint.
