what the hell happened? i hade 253 million gil on my character and 2 million on 9 retainers and 4 million on one retainer i want it back or i am unsubscribing i have been collecting this gil for years what happened?????????

Did you follow a link that was in an in-game chat message or in-game mail about some controversial things to do with the game or to win/receive some in-game prize or currency, directing you to the "FF14 forums", of which you had to log in to view or post a comment?
If so, you fell for a "phishing" scam, and the site you "logged into" with your account information was a fake website designed to harvest your account login info so your account can be stripped of valuables to in turn supply the RMT "Gil Sellers".

As in, you gave your log in info to hackers.

In addition to tricking you into giving out your log in info, the site may have also installed exploits or trojans/viruses to further extort you for money and other information.
Put in a Customer Service ticket and hope that they can recover your in-game currency.

One thing to keep in mind; Honey attracts butterflies better than salt.
If you go in with threats of quitting, you less likely to have a positive outcome.
Because, in a sense, it was technically you who facilitated your loss.

I have dealt with hacking/scam victims before in RL, those who are aggressive with those they seek help from, get less in return because of the additional problems they create.
Try to keep a level head.

I recommend to:

• Never trust a link from a person you don't know who sends a tell suddenly.
• Even if you do know them, examine the web address closely to make sure it's safe.
• Always check the dot extension on the web address (for example the one for this website is .com, malicious ones tend to be unusual).
• If it's a link to a recognisable website like Square Enix, lookup the official website yourself on Google and compare letter-by-letter and the dot extension, to make sure it's authentic.
• If it's a forum post, find that forum post yourself by navigating to it, rather than pasting a link that could easily be malicious.
• Never put in your login info to a link you clicked. Instead, navigate to that website naturally through Google and login that way.

I remember others saying that your gil doesn't get returned but I'm not sure if that's true. You will normally get unbanned though.

Links aren't clickable in chat for the PC client either.
You have to copy and paste the link. And it's a pretty obvious fake link, I've been seeing those tells for months.
Sadly it works on some people and that's why they continue.

Going from your join date, I'd assume you are now an adult or close to one. Throwing a tantrum and threatening won't get you any good results. In fact, it can potentially get you banned since when you agreed to the ToS you agreed not to share your password or account with other people, which is what you (unknowingly) did in this ocassion.

Contact support via ticket in a composed non-threatening way and cross your fingers, but brace yourself for the high chance that they will not restore your gil, since there is no easy way from the GM side to differentiate between a phising victim and someone who gave his account into to a friend to move gil around and then request a refund.
