Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

Plus...transparency....feels like an odd question to ask when they have been transparent with us.

Have they though? The last person that claimed they address this all the time couldn't find a source newer than a year old, and in that video they asked us to "please just wait a little bit longer". Now I don't know what they consider "a little bit longer", but a year is definitely being generous and still nothing.

People are now expecting/hoping we'll finally see something next expansion but the fact that this wasn't communicated in any way beforehand, and we really don't even know for sure if we actually will, isn't what I'd call transparent.

They told us what to expect with the Viera and Hrothgar, that they would have limited hair options, they told us about the headgear issue, they told us that this "may be the last time they could develop new races, so they wanted to both give something thats been requested for a long time, and something they wanted to do that was also requested" not a 100% verbatim retelling, but its what was said.
People every chance they got would try to ask about Male Viera and sometimes Female Hrothgar, and they have addressed this saying that they barley had enough time to do what they did in the 1st place, and that there are resource issues and technical issues atm. If they could implement them in the future, they would.
I call that pretty transparant. And YoshiP keeps answering these questions even though he already answered them.

Also, we still have another fanfest or 2 left before the release of the game, they haven't revealed to us everything to expect out the gate, and they wont till the planned time.
So this lack of transparency Im seeing sounds more like you want answers beforehand, before the planned reveals during the time that they actually talk about these things. Its not like he can just break the news now.

I'm not terribly interested in what they've said about male Viera, female Hrothgar, or headgear. This thread is about the lack of customization both races have, and have received, throughout this expansion. It's been the opposite of transparent.

I don't want any answers "beforehand", you've been around long enough in these threads to know this particular ball has been kicked from 5.1 to 5.2 to 5.3 to 5.4 and now 5.5 and we still don't have or know anything.

The fact that we're even looking at Fan Fest for answers now is more of a "Well surely they'll have something done by now? Right guys? *nervous laughter* than based on anything they'd said or even hinted at.

When they don't say anything next month what's the spiel gonna be then? Just wait for 6.1? There's always 6.2?

EDIT: I sound a bit aggressive, I'm not mad at you specifically or trying to start an argument. But I strongly disagree that they've been as transparent about this as you claim.

I haven't actually been following this thread, I just glance at it every so often and have just made the assumption that its the same Male Viera, Female Hrothgar conversations that cycle in the other Male Viera Thread. Just made the blind assumption thats what was being talked about, so Ill say My bad.

Now that my head is on straight and Im actually paying attention now...yes, any conversation about the customization options and the hair especially has been zero.
The most info we got way back when was that Viera and Hrothgar are getting their own unique hairstyles....but no release date and never mentioned again. Yes.
But well, since they never talked about it (Ill chop it up to they didnt have answers and were probly focused on other things at the time) what better time to reveal then at a fanfest? Im not nervous about it, I frankly believe we will hear some news on it. They had 2 years, you know that they are aware of the issue.

Like I said though, they did actually bring up hairstyles briefly in the art stream a year ago and asked us to wait "a little bit longer". And then nothing happened.

And sure, Fan Fest would be a great place to say something. But my point was that "Please wait a little bit longer" did not set the expectation of "But actually we meant next year in May during a Fan Fest we'll bring it up for the expansion coming sometime in fall lol".

I sure hope they say something but I've been hoping since 5.1 so...

I feel like the missing genders would weight as much as brand new races at this rate... Given that (if I'm not mistaken) Viera and Hroth got announced in the second big event, I assume this next Fanfest would be the one to look up to that, having in mind that Squeenix loves to follow patterns.

If not that, at the minimum I'd expect new customization options for them and for the OG races.

Not to be the Debbie Downer, but as much as I am an advocate for adding the missing genders it is kind of grating to see that tacked on to conversations about the botched implementation of the genders we do have.

Should we be in this situation to begin with? No. From the moment they added male and female miqote, roes, and highlanders respectively that should have been the standard. Is it getting kind of annoying to hear "Yes! And the missing genders!" when discussing the lack of hair for Viera and the necessity to PAY for fantasia to do anything significant with Hrothgar.

You are essentially equating adding a whole new race, that we were told were not coming, with SE seeming to deliberately ignore the fact they shipped these "highly customizable" new races with absolutely none of that. There are appropriate threads for m Viera and f Hrothgar.


Back on track: I agree that the slide on the fanfest website doesn't really look like much. It appears to be images taken from previous fanfests, and the Viera/Hrothgar reveal slides look nice from a display perspective.
