Viera and Hrothgar Megathread

Hrothgar already have to pay for any hairstyle change they want to do. Nothing about these races is "fair" tbh.

Only for that type of people to then claim "guess nobody liked that race afterall, should've made bun bun bois~". When you got a controversy on your hands, the last thing you'd want to do is double down on it.

This is something that frustrates me about these two very different races being bundled together as a package deal currently. Interview questions are rarely asked about just viera or just hrothgar, and aside from the initial “viera will get some legacy hairstyles” he has never addressed them individually when talking about issues. But they have different issues, which will likely require different solutions, so I’d like to hear just a little more on this.

For Hrothgar it makes sense they wouldn’t get legacy hair because their head shape is, indeed, very different. With viera, I don’t see a reason we wouldn’t be able to get most of the legacy hairstyles fitted to us other than lack of time...but it seems like it would take way more time to design a bunch of racial hairs from scratch. I like racial hairs (there’s a few hairstyles from tactics and 12 I’d like to see...) but I still think the best way to go resource wise would be to retrofit some old hairstyles to viera and focus the heavy lifting on making new racial hair for hroth, unlocking the ones they can between face models (shared styles) and figuring out a solution to them being able to change without paying money.

Yeah, it definitely sounds like they're needless complicating things for very little gain if this is how they intend to go about it.

Aside from the different head shape on Hrothgar he specifically told them to make them as beastly and different as they could with what's available without regard for legacy hairstyles, as (some of) those would not fit whatever image they want to project with Hrothgar.

Viera is Viera and being largely humanoid there's no particular reason they can't style their hair in whatever way they want without losing their 'identity'.

Maybe it's unlikely, but after reading both statements it's possible that certain legacy hairstyles for Viera are still on the table, while the race-specific hair is for Hrothgar.

In May it will have been close to exactly 2 years, I think most people's expectations are well and truly tempered.

I think many are more so hopeful rather than expectant and look to May as a sort of last chance before they jump ship and well and truly give up on these races though.

Right? People who actually play the races are pretty jaded about the subject at this point. Most of this thread isn’t even like “can’t wait for fanfest ^o^ we’re gonna get everything we want!” and more “hey devs can we have like a crumb of info on where this is at thaaanks”.

I'm pretty big on in-game fashion and I won't buy sets that don't have hair or headpieces I can use. While I understand not going back and redoing all the old headgear to fit us, I figured we would be a consideration moving forward in content. This past Valentines Day was probably the first time since ARR launched that I skipped a holiday event. Excluding a portion of the player base is not a good business model. I still hold out hope they will eventually address this and move forward with us included in future things.
