Most of the past hints have been pretty obvious though.

Machinist was 007 shirt with a silhouette of Bond holding a gun, Red Mage was a Scarlet Witch shirt, Dark Knight was a Batman shirt and Viera was a Bugs Bunny jacket.
The fact that we're still talking about what we think it will be instead of talking about what we think it'll play like is honestly pretty unusual.

To be fair the Grim Reaper can mean alot of things from Death itself, the Scythe, powers related to death, causing death as a business, and etc.

Personally holding on it being 50/50 being a Scythe job or something else related to Death.

If it is not a Scythe job, I can already see the anger by people who will complain the Melee DPS job did not follow their predictions of it being a Scythe job

Grim Reaper isn't necessarily just about "death", but about reaping souls. It could be anything of what you said, but could also be a job that's not really about death as much. That's where I've gotten my prediction for Sice, since she is portrayed as a grim reaper, but it's more about the reaping (absorbs malice from the dead, same concept) than "death" like most people would see it.

Yep, there will be a lot of pissed off players if it's not a scythe job at this point, but there are probably just as many who prefers something else. I liked the idea at first, but while it would be cool, I would actually prefer something else unique. Looking at what they did with Sage, and I think Yoshi-P have mentioned in the past that he wants to make more unique adaptions of FF jobs, there might be a surprise when it comes to the weapon. Even my own prediction of Sice doesn't mean it would have to be Scythe as weapon just because she uses it.

Surprised to see so many people here who are kinda assuming the new job will be totally unique to FFXIV. All other jobs we have in the game (and Sage) are based on already existing jobs/characters from Final Fantasy games. Sure, it's very possible they will make unique jobs, but wouldn't it at least be more likely that they just follow the formula they have followed up until now? Especially since there are still tons of jobs they can add based on existing jobs.

The definition of unique really depends on the individual so we can't really determine if the job maybe defined as unique or returning job based on people's opinions alone.

There is already groups of people split between Sage being a already existing job in FF games or a job that never existed before in FF games due to the name and weapon of the job.

For some Sage is a returning job in the FF series for FF14 because Sage already existed but has not been seen since FF4 but some argue it is completely separate new unique job due to the design choice of attacks and weapons.

This same argument still goes on with Astrologian Job in FF14 due to player's difference in opinion about Astrologian being a returning job in FF14 that has not been seen since FFTactics due to the name or a completely new job due to the new skills and weapon it obtained in FF14.

At least from what was shown so far, the only thing in common with the previous Sages is just the name.

They aren't even regarded as healers in other FF's, and the most iconic portrayal of a Sage is an old seasoned mage (Tellah). I actually wish they'd come up with an unique job name for that, like they did with Gunbreaker. At least in AST's case, the actual potrayal of the job matches the name.

If the latest dungeon, Paglth'an, is any indication the Imperial Garlean Army might be in the running. They shoved that place full of Garlean Reaper war mechs to the point they are the second most common enemy you fight in it. We also had Gaius unleashing a new attack in a cutscene this patch called Crocea Mors, which is Latin for "Yellow Death".

And considering the guy who is teasing us with the Grim Reaper shirts is the same guy who signed off on the Garlean Reaper mechs and the allied Garlean soldier firing off a new attack called Yellow Death....let's just say I don't think those are coincidences.
