XIV hates packet loss. You drop a packet and the game DC's. Websites and video streaming don't care. Some games have refresh times coded in, but XIV doesn't seem to. But then, on the other hand, we don't have to deal with buggy, intrusive anti-cheat systems so...
It's been pretty much like clockwork since 2014 so not really coincidence. It makes sense, though. If they're not able to implement something entirely in a test environment and need to make adjustments to the production environment ahead of time, which is something we end up doing at my work sometimes when we push an update out, then it can lead to some odd and possibly unstable behavior until it's all settled back into place after the update.
