I have been hunting a 3060 TI, 3070, or 3080 for the last TWO MONTHS and they are all immediately sold out by bots the second they come in stock. It's gotten so bad I'm about ready to commission a whole ass new PC from one of the builders like Microcenter, then pull the GPU out. (I'm getting a custom in-desk watercooled PC....)

what would be a good setup to have a decent framerate at 4k resolution? ATM im running an fx8350 with a 1060 6gig and 32 gigs of ram. Im getting 20ish fps at 4k, with max graphics and some gshade enhancements. It seems ok, ive never gotten any lag or anything, But i imagine id notice a difference with higher fps maybe?

I would definitely upgrade that CPU before the GPU honestly. As for 4k the 1060 isn't gonna cut it as that's a 1080p card. You'd need to step up to an RTX 2070/3070 or AMD equivalent for playable 4K gaming. But there is a massive GPU shortage right now so it's pretty much impossible for anyone to find anything that is actually being sold for MSRP.

:edit: The reason I suggested upgrading the CPU before GPU is because that CPU is going to severely bottleneck any future GPU you purchase and you won't see much of an improvement in your framerates if that CPU isn't able to keep up with the GPU.

I've heard the CPU is a much bigger bottleneck for XIV then a GPU in terms of maintaining consistent 60 FPS and even then you're only likely to lose frames in areas with high player traffic unless you have a really weak CPU/GPU combo.

You need both, but CPU really only comes into play in towns/fate/hunts/ areas with lots of people basically. Instances, it'll be GPU mostly. But again, depends on framerate you are targeting and the resolution you play at.

I locked my game to 60 fps, and I get that solid in towns with no dips, same in heavy traffic areas. But I just upgraded over the winter to 5800x and 3080, so....

All of you are correct. My CPU and MB is too old and I would probably be wasting my new GPU if I buy a new one now. Might as well save and build a whole new PC when prices and supplies stabilizes like you said. Thank you all I am really enjoying this game again after coming back two months ago after taking a break from Heavensward. Almost at Shadowbringer MSQ now I think

I am glad though that my 1060 can still run this game decently I lowered some of the shadow and reflection settings though just to make sure my GPU does not get taxed too much etc haha

My 3090 can but I don't expect people to get that for gaming. A 3080 would do that just fine.

It does but it depends on many factors.
Take my pc for an example. I game at 1440p, uses a 3090 (don't use this for just gaming guys, it's a waste of money) and an i9 10 gen CPU. My CPU usage while gaming is not even 50%. Generally speaking everything above 1080p res the GPU is the bigger bottleneck in this game (and in general)

Do you think my GPU/CPU combo will be fine for endwalker?

Just as a data point, my GTX 1070 that I paid less than $400 when it was new, is now selling on Newegg for $1085. https://www.newegg.com/nvidia-900-1g...8886-_-Product

i.e., it's a really bad time to buy a GPU

So I upgraded to an i9 10th gen CPU instead (which of course, required a new motherboard and RAM) and FFXIV works fine (all games are on SSD, FF14 on a new M.2), but I'm only playing at 1080p.

At the moment, it's not really about what is optimal, which a better GPU certainly would be, but what makes the most sense for your gaming PC's budget.

Edited Note: Last time I played FF14, a couple of years ago, was with an i7-4790k, 32 GB RAM, and I don't notice an improvement with the i9 10th gen, 64 GB RAM. But I never noticed a problem with the i7-4790k, probably because I've only been playing at 1080p, and still have the GTX 1070. We have one PC that has a RTX 2070 Super playing at 1080p (bought when GPU prices were at MSRP), which is otherwise identical to mine, and if it's performance is better than my PC, it's not enough to make me jealous (but I did buy it for my husband as a birthday present a few years ago, and I hope he recognizes there was a method to my madness).

Can I hijack this thread to ask what would be a recommended upgrade from my current 8GB RX 580 and AMD Ryzen 5 2600x that could be compatible with a B450M? I have a hard time figuring out the best way to search for trustworthy hardware upgrade recommendations, specially if I'm not trying to have an end-of-the-line PC spec.

My biggest problem with the RX 580 I have is that it gets loud as hell when I'm playing FFXIV. But I guess any newer gpu will have the same problem because they get really hot.

I'd like to be able to run the game above 1080p and for Limsa not to make my FPS below 30
