How would you feel if the game went free to play or buy to play?

BUT…..

Would it change you wanting to, continuing to play? Would you rage quit? Does paying a monthly sub mean something to you?

Again, this will never happen and don’t get me wrong, I don’t want it to. But…. If it did, how would you feel?

IMO, a game going free to play or buy to play, hi rift how are you? Usually means it’s death.

Will virtually never happen because Yoshi himself stated early on that he would never make it free to play or pay to win, that he would "rather shut the game down completely" instead if it came to that. And I see no reason to believe that attitude has changed.

Besides, you only have to look at FFXI, a nearly 20 year old game still is entirelly pay to play and SE still supports it even after all this time, so FFXIV will be no different.

Free to play and buy to play almost always compromise the integrity of the game because the company needs additional income for the continued developement of an mmo and the initial price of a buy to play game is not enough.

So it would either adopt a pay-to-win model or put in so many restrictions for "free players" that you essentially have to pay for a sub anyway. The former is an absolute no and the latter basically just means you're paying anyway in which case I'd rather just cut out the middleman and pay a sub from the start.

Going free to play doesn't mean it's death. Going free to play is what happens when it's already dying. Sometimes this model allows the game to survive too and there are examples of that.

I prefer the monthly fee because I don't want to mess around buying all the conveniences a subscription fee would normally give me access to. I like that a subscription fee is an effective way to mostly get adults, which has an effect on the community.

What I remember reading is that Yoshi-P isn't intending to go in that direction, he thinks the subscription fee is necessary to maintain the current quality of the game and that people would pay a subscription fee for quality like that and the evidence speaks for itself.

Objectively the amount of stuff on the mogstation these days the game may as well be free to play. As you could argue were getting less and less and less for our actual subs. An opinion some might consider supported by the reduced amount of content we get in a cycle.

Literally everything on the mogstation should be attainable in game via some means or other.. tied to achievements perhaps. Like the play dead emote could be awarded for the raising 500 people.. or who knows what else..

One could also argue that the game already does have pay to win elements as things like the companion app and all the extra retainers can give players some decent advantages over players who don't have them. So they do technically qualify as pay to win.

If it went full free to play though I honestly don't know if I'd still play it. You'd probably then be having to cough $15 up for every new raid tier or $10 for the newest dungeon which you need to advance the story.. or $10 fornthe new ex primal trial. At that point big no thanks..
