They're changing the Summoner level 80 quest. Is a certain NPC that appeared in that quest going to be killed in 5.5, making the change necessary?

They're not going to retroactively change the story of job quests. The 5.5 MSQ takes place after any Shadowbringers 5.0 job quests.
But I do wonder what they will change. A simple dialogue change wouldn't require to abandon and accept the question again if it was in the Questlog already.
I'm taking Lore way too seriously. And I'm not sorry about that.
Despite doing that quest twice now, I can't remember exactly how it goes.
Doesn't it start with Y'mhitra sending you to talk to that Lalafell Summoner, who then sends you to try and find Arenvald and Fordola? Arenvald fills you in and is an NPC that appears and talks to you, right? My guess would be, they're changing it, because it would be the only example of a quest line that runs concurrent with with them removing an NPC from a location in game, I think? Because isn't Arenvald always idle in Rhalgr's Reach if you go there, to where him and the Miqotes stand?
Maybe I'm brainfarting, but I imagine that might be why. If he's not going to be on location, then you have to restart the quest, because the old quest prompt can only be fulfilled by him at that location. So, if it confirms anything, it's a location change for Arenvald?

"I thought that my invincible power would hold the world captive, leaving me in a freedom undisturbed. Thus night and day I worked at the chain with huge fires and cruel hard strokes. When at last the work was done and the links were complete and unbreakable, I found that it held me in its grip." - Rabindranath Tagore
You also go and visit Fordola in the prison they could be changing her location since she should be with the summoner squads... I say summoner squads but I should say primal fighting squads since she can't be tempered and that's why she was let out and collard to begin with.Despite doing that quest twice now, I can't remember exactly how it goes.

Also remember they can't give a definite time frame for that level 80 quest (time bubble shenanigans) so for them to change it because you think one of those two die is highly unlikely. For those of you who were here at the time remember the whole conundrum that happened at the end of 2.0 with Nanamo and the Culinarian quest for those who did it after The parting glass and before she "woke up".

A huge THANK YOU!!!! For FINALLY selling the Meteor Survivor Polo on the store. AND a huge thanks to my friend who bought it for me while he was at Fan Fest!!! YES I finally have my POLO!!!
If they're rewriting the Level 80 Summoner quest to account for Fordola no longer being imprisoned and Arenvald no longer being in Ala Mhigo, then I suppose their plot armor has a decent chance of being gone now. Which, well, I'm not too happy about, lol. I'd prefer if at least one villain/antagonist got to atone for their actions without dying in the process. And Arenvald is just... he's the third youngest Scion, right after Alisaie and Alphinaud. The man's actually got his whole life ahead of him, and it'd be a shame to cut that short and give him the Papalymo treatment.
I agree. While i greatly dislike the idea though, i could definitely see them do it. They seem to not want to kill of any characters the fan base is sensitive about because they don’t want to crush their feels so they resort to killing off side-lined characters who still have a lot of room to grow. I hope it’s just a red herring and maybe it’s something simple but them not showing Arenvald in the trailer is concerning(unless it’s because of some wardrobe change lol).If they're rewriting the Level 80 Summoner quest to account for Fordola no longer being imprisoned and Arenvald no longer being in Ala Mhigo, then I suppose their plot armor has a decent chance of being gone now. Isn't this quest time bubbled to "after 5.0"? You can't take the level 80 job quests until you've completed the quest Shadowbringers. So it definitely happens between 5.0 and the end of 5.4 (with whatever the changed version is being between 5.0 and the end of 5.5 instead). These quests usually mention the First in some way, too. Also remember they can't give a definite time frame for that level 80 quest (time bubble shenanigans) so for them to change it because you think one of those two die is highly unlikely. If they were to remove or replace one of the characters in the quest for this patch, it doesn't remove the possibility of something happening to either of them in 5.5, nor would it discount the experience of the players who'd played it prior to 5.5. There'd be no scenarios in which a death/injury would be paradoxical.
I'm not saying this will happen, mind - just that it doesn't discount it. It could be as simple as a line of dialogue changing!

Right but how long after end of 5.0 and if someone does it AFTER 5.5 and one of them does get killed. You then have people again scratching their heads saying WTF is going on again ALA The Parting Glass and Nanamo's supposed death Via poisoning and if she had REMAINED dead and her being a part of the Level 50 CUL class.Isn't this quest time bubbled to "after 5.0"? What I was getting at is they still have to keep when that level 80 quest happens Vague during the time bubble to not cause the Shenanigans or another wtf is going on with Estinien as the Dragoon job classes leveling them after heavensward and Nidhogg's (as well as his eyes) complete defeat.
