I mind SE giving us half-baked races, not fulfilling their promises of new hairstyles for both races, and continuing to stay silent about the genderlock problem. But go ahead and project. And yeah i won’t trust him because he also said way back in 2.0 they wouldnt genderlock races and here we are.

But I don't believe for a second they would have made additional customization for other races or any of the other things you mentioned had they not done Hrothgar, they would simply allocated the time elsewhere like they did in Stormblood.

Part of the weirdness of it all probably has to do with uncertainty over what lifespan the game would have. They seem a lot more confident about it now, based on his comments in recent interviews and the announcement event. I do think they bit off a lot more than they could chew in 5.0, and that, along with all the other difficult things to add, it cemented their resolve to upgrade the engine. An MMO with a further 5-10 years to go after EW isn't going to be well served by the current engine. However, I don't expect we'll see any new engine until 7.0 at the earliest, at which point completing the current races may become viable as a knock-on effect. Perhaps he'll surprise us at the next Fanfest, but tying it to whenever the engine is upgraded will mean it is more cost-efficient.
