    Here's the result:
My character started on the rail at the bottom each time. The only way to deal with this is to develop a feel for the timing.
I dunno, i think theres only 3 shown and the difference is server lag. The standing jump, walking and running. There is also sprinting and mounted.
Jumping puzzle also use bad hit boxes so there is that too. Like on some you need to aim for the very edge of your hitbox to hit the edge of the hitbox of ledge to dodge a another to long hit box from braking your jump.

Some players find self-targeting helpful while doing the jump puzzles. The targeting circle under you indicates the leeway you have for "missing" the object you want to land on. It's also helpful if you're "hitting your head" on something above you as you jump because you can see how far it's safe to move off what you're already standing on so you can avoid the object above you on your next attempt. I can't remember running into the last problem except on the Moonfire Faire Tower, though (unless I'm trying to jump in a direction that isn't actually intended) and all my characters have problems with that spot, not just my Roe.

Player collision appears to be the same regardless of character height. I've tested that in housing many times. I've floated items to the height where my Roe can't walk under them then switched to my lala just to hit the same obstruction (which is amusing when the object is floating well above her head). I have yet to be able to place items in a way that my lala can pass but my Roe can't.

And there's usually a seasonal event about jumping up a wooden tower.
There's also 2 different Leap of Faith GATEs in Gold Saucer along with the new towers at the outer edge of the Firmament.

Very janky. As a PC player on keyboard I've just had to give up on jumping puzzles, which unfortunately means I've had to give up on the sightseeing log. When I do jumping puzzles in other games with a controller, there's a certain amount of control I still have while jumping, but with keyboard you set yourself off and you can't really adjust on the way if things are going pear-shaped.

Leap of Faith was thankfully designed with the system's flaws in mind, but I will never, EVER attempt anything like the Kugane tower again. Over 2 hours of my life I can't get back. The game wasn't really built for jump puzzles of that nature, but they tried.

Leap of Faith and Cliffhanger use large enough platforms that it's not really an issue. Other jumping puzzles, especially the big one in Kugane, have tiny footholds that even a lalafell hangs off of.

And then once you manage to make it up the tower, you need to make a precise sprinting jump for the lamp post at the base for another point in the sightseeing log. That one's just sadism.

Someone on my server was offering raises to BLUs who self destructed near the lamp post so they could be raised on top of it for the log entry toward the end of Stormblood. I'm guessing it still happens every now and then. I'd have never bothered with it otherwise. Climbing that tower once was enough.

No, it really wasn't. I have friends who've used both and they say controller has a bit of that fine control than PC does but there are some that even they still have issues with because of the size of the platform and the hitbox issues. I just wish they had kept it as a fun challenge in things like Gold Saucer and not tied it into sightseeing log completion. I refrain from just plugging in a controller so I can be one of their number that isn't completing the logs, and hopefully one day they will ask why and we can say that the controls really bone keyboard users and maybe get some adjustments.
