Yes, curiously that is mentioned in the English trailer, but not the French one, where the focus is on his hatred and anger consuming all - I believe the theme is similar in the German one but I am not 100% about that one. I'd be interested to know what the JP one says. It sounds a bit like poetic embellishment that can be interpreted in many ways.

Regarding any souls consumed to summon Zodiark for their aether, one thing to bear in mind is that he too was sundered. It makes their status something of an unknown, but they could feasibly lie dormant inside him rather than the Lifestream. Frankly, if you want a potent source of soul energy, there is one inside the planet already (and which may extend outside of it into the heavens as well.)

He already did bother with them though when he murdered the entire populares.

That was Elidibus who ordered Zenos' personal guard to eliminate the Populares, then Fandaniel took it upon himself to remove what little influence they might've still had.

That sounds...strange because Zenos has never really occurred to me as someone filled with rage and hate with how generally aloof he tends to be. Unless perhaps there's another side of him we still haven't seen...?

We literally see Zenos standing over their dead bodies with blade in hand at the end of 5.2 or whatever patch it is lol.

To be fair, the verb tense is "will"/"shall" in French - "my anger will consume the universe, and my hatred shall be without limit" - and something to the effect of "the only thing that boils the blood in my veins shall be the fuel of my hatred" in German - again not 100% sure on that one but it seems right. Yet either way the sort of feelings of emptiness and disconnectedness he experiences can frequently be paired with such emotions, but with the idea that he mainly expresses them through violence, which is the sole activity through which he experiences any sort of emotion. Also, I wouldn't put him past him to slaughter more indiscriminately if it comes to acquiring "fuel" for his plan. He has Fandaniel doing it for him at present but he may pitch in. It's more the lack of reference to the moon or sea of souls that stuck out to me in the other versions.

On German he says "Mein eisiger Zorn, der das Blut in meinen Adern zum kochen bringt... soll der Brennstoff meines Hasses sein!"

That means something like "my cold anger, which makes my blood boil... shall fuel my hatred!"

...yes im way to tired for a better TL but tbh it does sound kinda weird in german...

All this talk of Zenos's hatred and anger reminds me of Zemus/Zeromus from Final Fantasy IV. Zemus being a man consumed by his hatred of humanity to the point of trying to exterminate them, and Zeromus being an immortal Grudge-like entity born of that same hatred. In turn, this makes me wonder whose memories of the Final Days Zenos possesses.

As an aside, can I just say how much of a trip it is to imagine Zenos talking about hatred or anger? I hesitate to say it's out of character for him, but it's pretty surprising to me.

As for the mysterious light figure—my money's on it being Venat. Hydaelyn Herself is likely a being on a much grander scale than that. But, and I'm going to sound like a broken record when I say this, I hope it's Minfilia.

The more i think about it the more its true... Zenos is rather cold, maybe dislikes stuff, looks down on you... but hate, anger...? he never seemed the type for it. He murdered his father in cold blood, without even hesitating a second he slit his throat and just as cold he returned to life - heck he literally went "ehh might as well resume the hunt" lol

Same here. While talking with her, I'm expecting us to start getting Echo flashbacks of the summoning of Hydaelyn or of our past self's interactions with her.
